
Intern - IT Communications Specialist

MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, business, information systems, or a related field . The IT Communications Intern is responsible for supporting the planning, development, and execution of communications that support IT initiatives, programs, and transformations across Berkshire Hathaway Energy. This role resides within the Change Management Office and partners closely with IT project teams, change practitioners, and business stakeholders to ensure clear, timely, and audience‑appropriate communications that enable awareness, understanding, and adoption of IT changes.
This internship position plays an important role in translating complex technical and organizational change information into clear, actionable communications for impacted employees and leaders, while ensuring alignment with enterprise change and communications standards.
Responsibilities
Develops and administers communications for IT projects, programs, and operational changes, aligned with broader change management strategies. Partners with IT change managers, project managers, and product owners to identify communication needs, key messages, audiences, channels, and timing. Creates, edits, and manages a variety of communication deliverables, including: Email and leader cascade messages SharePoint and intranet content FAQs, job aids, and quick-reference materials Presentation materials and talking points Manages IT-related SharePoint or intranet pages to ensure information is accurate, current, and easily accessible. Coordinates communication activities across multiple initiatives to reduce message fatigue and ensure consistency of tone and messaging. Ensures communications align with corporate branding, style guidelines, and governance standards; partners with Corporate Communications as needed. Tracks communication execution and supports measurement of effectiveness (e.g., distribution metrics, feedback, engagement indicators). Analyzes and synthesizes information from technical, business, and project sources to produce clear and concise communications. Maintains documentation of communications plans, schedules, and artifacts. Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Performance Expectations Provides communications deliverables on time, with high quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. Demonstrates strong written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex or technical information. Effectively prioritizes and manages multiple communications efforts across concurrent IT initiatives. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with IT teams, business partners, and communications stakeholders. Demonstrates sound judgment when handling sensitive, confidential, or change‑related information. Continuously builds knowledge of IT, change management practices, and enterprise communications standards. Attends work regularly and complies with company policies and procedures, including workplace safety requirements. Monitors and adheres to all compliance requirements relevant to the role. Must be a college student, sophomore, or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, business, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Must be able to work May-August 2026 with potential to continute through the school year. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
