The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing all maintenance operations within the hotel property, overseeing the engineering team, creating preventative maintenance schedules, and ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of all mechanical, electrical, and structural systems by supervising repairs, replacements, and coordinating staff to address any issues that arise, all while adhering to safety regulations and budget constraints.

Ensuring that all applicable safety regulations are communicated and adhered to by personal example

Support full hotel compliance with safety rules to further our goal of zero (0) accidents and encouragement of reporting and correcting near misses

Adhere to SOPs and other work procedures as required to ensure guest satisfaction and consistent service is delivered to our patrons

Immediately report all injuries to Loss Prevention, as well as the manager on duty

Job Responsibilities

Support the vision, mission, and service standards of the Crowne Plaza Hotel by providing positive, consistent service that exceeds guest expectations

Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.

Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.

Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.

Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.

Be knowledgeable of and comply with all safety, OSHA standards and procedures, and all performance standards for department and property. Ensure good safety practices of employees and guests, and assist in the maintenance of property emergency and security procedures.

Oversee training and development of Maintenance Department personnel, as applicable. Keep training materials current and accurate. Staff development may process through the use of manuals, our on-line training system, training guides, tests and tools. Follow prescribed processes and checklists.

Assist with staff evaluations, help monitor and supervise the process.

Monitor appearance of employees to verify they meet department, property uniform and appearance guidelines.

Plan, document, present and hold yourself and your team accountable for your own set of projects and goals for the property. Follow up appropriately.

Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program of all-building equipment and guestrooms, including the training of the Engineering staff on the management of such a program.

Confirm timely completion of all assigned maintenance requests and provide direction to maintenance team regarding tasks needing attention.

Maintain electrical license and knowledge of all voltage systems, wiring, and motors throughout the property.

Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all hotel systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and building automation systems.

Lead and manage a team of engineers, assigning tasks, providing training, and overseeing their performance.

Act as the primary point of contact for emergency situations, coordinating repairs and ensuring proper response to maintenance crises.

Track maintenance expenses, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and manage the department budget for repairs and replacements.

Manage large maintenance projects, including contractor coordination, budget monitoring, and project timelines.

Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards related to maintenance and operations.

Perform seasonal work; ice and snow removal of parking lot, sidewalks, and grounds clean‑up, site preparation and close‑out, and assist in upkeep/repairs to irrigation system and components.

Perform seasonal maintenance to provide for system start‑up and shutdown, including power washer, components and site clean‑up.

Keep GM informed of any problems that develop on shift and of corrective actions necessary.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Some college preferred

Supervisory experience preferred

Maintenance and HVAC experience required.

Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.

Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.

Clear communication with both technical and non‑technical staff to explain issues and coordinate repairs.

Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds regularly

Remain in a stationary position for 8 hours throughout the work shift

Must have a good sense of balance, be able to bend and kneel

Must have the ability to communicate with guests, management, and co‑workers using verbal and written forms of communication
