Bon Air Presbyterian Church , PC(USA), seeks a Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth. Located in Richmond, Virginia, BAPC is an active congregation, open, affirming, growing in faith and committed to serving our neighbors and wider community.
Children at BAPC are involved in weekly Sunday school and participate in worship by serving as acolytes, singing in our children’s choirs, and joining in the “Time for Young Disciples” conversation during the service. Each summer, our church hosts a music camp for the children of BAPC and the neighboring community.
Our youth participate in Sunday School, Sunday evening Youth Group, and join with the congregation in Outreach, Mission and Service projects. Each summer the youth attend Massanetta Springs (Middle School Conference), Montreat (High School Conference), or serve on a week-long mission trip. In addition, our Church has a thriving Bon Air Presbyterian Preschool, with opportunity for deepening connections between preschool families and the church.

Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching and leading children and youth ministries.
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Formal training or certification in Christian Education is welcomed, but not required.
Must be available to work in-person Wednesday evenings and Sundays.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate Christian Education classes for children and youth, including selection of curriculum and management of materials, supplies and volunteers.
Lead, plan and organize programs for children and youth on Sunday mornings that will educate our children and youth about God, the Bible and our Presbyterian faith. Some examples are: leading a “Time for Young Disciples” in the 11am worship service; programming for elementary children during worship; liturgical seasonal activities; attending Wednesday evening dinners to build community among families of children and youth.
Lead, plan and organize Youth Group each Sunday evening from 5:30pm to 7pm, building community, deepening faith and fellowship, and sharing your love of God.
Lead, plan, and organize opportunities for Mission, Service and Growing in Faith, including Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference, High School Service Weeks, Montreat Youth Conference, Camp Hanover, and the Fall Crop Walk.
Communicate with parents of children and youth, the Christian Education ministry team, volunteers, our pastor and staff on a regular and consistent basis. Provide information for planned events in our newsletters, calendars and social media publication monthly.
Attend staff meetings, monthly meeting of the Christian Education Ministry Team and ensure adherence to our Child Protection Policy.
Terms of Call:
20-25 hours per week
Regular, in-person, required work times: Wednesday evenings and Sundays
Paid vacation
Paid continuing education
Salary: $32,000 – $35,000 per year
