Our primary clients are governmental entities such as State and Federal DOTs, BOR and USACE. Experience with these entities and scopes is required for this position.

This Position This position is offered for a specific project near Sandpoint, ID. The duration of this contract is May 2026 – September 2026.

Successful candidates may have the opportunity to extend their employment beyond this project based on performance.

The Construction Superintendent Will lead and manage the on‑site construction team, oversee all work on site, and coordinate all the activities of a construction site according to the project plans and specifications.

Superintendents will work with project teams including Project Managers, Project Engineers, Foreman, Field Personnel, and other office departments to deliver successful projects to owners on time and on budget with the desired level of quality.

The construction Superintendent will be responsible for orderliness on‑site and ensure compliance with safety regulations. You will ensure quality standards are met, and all equipment and materials are always available on‑site. You will liaise with inspection authorities regarding approvals. Superintendents must be strong leaders, pro‑active, and perform well under pressure.

Superintendents must be able to travel as needed for projects and be flexible to work various schedules as the project requires.

Key Responsibilities

Leading and managing the on‑site construction team.

Coordinating and overseeing all work on site.

Attending production meetings.

Reviewing and becoming familiar with the schedule and budget and ensuring adherence to these.

Ensuring quality standards are met.

Placing orders for materials and is responsible for equipment and materials on site.

Following the project timeline to ensure deadlines are met.

Monitoring and ensuring on‑site safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness.

Maintaining records for site personnel such as daily field reports, field orders, and RFIs.

Liaising with inspection authorities regarding approvals.

Create and execute project schedule and look ahead schedules.

Keep timecard for crews with quantities of work installed weekly.

Recognize changes to the scope of work or contract and notify project manager.

Conduct weekly toolbox safety talks.

Provide dimensional and elevation layout for crews and inspect the work for accuracy and quality.

Model a positive and professional attitude for crew.

Provide ongoing coaching and discipline when needed to crew members.

Correct any unsafe acts or conditions on project site immediately.

Qualifications

8+ years as a construction superintendent.

Proficient in MS Office Word and Excel.

Proficient with taking and uploading digital photographs.

Ability to lift 60 pounds and to operate heavy equipment.

Must be able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, survey stakes.

Able to effectively communicate with craftworkers, management and clients.

Outstanding organizational skills.

Be a forward thinker to schedule crews, equipment and materials in advance.

Create and execute look ahead schedules.

Prior experience managing crews.

Prior experience using HCSS Heavy Job or other electronic daily record‑keeping tools.

Prior experience with constructing stream channels, culverts, road improvements, underground wet utilities, cast‑in‑place concrete structures including bridges and retaining walls, concrete and steel repairs, ADA and site concrete.

Experience working for project owners such as DOT, USACE, DOR and other government entities.

Benefits

PERFORMANCE BONUS:

(up to $6,000 per Qtr) + per diem (when applicable) + potential end‑of‑year bonus.

INSURANCE:

MJ Hughes will pay 100% of our base medical coverage for the employee, additional dependents or supplemental policies can be added at employee's cost.

VACATION AND PTO:

Accrual will start immediately in accordance with WA State Law.

401k + COMPANY MATCH

- Available to those employees who choose to enroll. Employees become eligible after 90 days of employment and employer contributions occur at the end of each calendar year.
