Job Title: Director of Music
POSITION SUMMARY Ware’s Chapel United Methodist Church is searching for a part-time Director of Music to lead in planning, coordinating, and directing music in worship and throughout the missional life of the church. Ware’s Chapel is an inclusive community of faith. The new Director of Music will embrace the values of the church and find new, creative ways to share our open doors and invitation with the greater community through music. This role will support the church’s mission by providing Christ-centered, excellent, and engaging music for worship services and special events, outreach, and growth-minded ministries. The Director of Music will collaborate closely with pastoral leadership to ensure music aligns with theological values, liturgical seasons, and congregational needs.
This position is part-time with some flexibility; approximately 20 hours per week.
This is a new role and allows for creativity of the Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Worship Planning and Leadership
Oversee all musical elements of weekly worship services in collaboration with pastoral staff
Select music that is theologically sound, musically appropriate, and accessible to the choir and congregation
Provide a variety of musical selections including traditional hymns and contemporary songs
Lead or coordinate music during worship services, including rehearsals and sound checks
Support special services such as holidays and seasonal or special celebrations
Musician and Choir Direction
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteer and/or paid musicians and vocalists
Direct choir(s), ensembles, bands, or instrumentalists as applicable
Conduct regular rehearsals and provide musical and spiritual leadership to participants
Foster a welcoming, encouraging, and spiritually nurturing environment for musicians
Administrative and Organizational Duties
Create and manage rehearsal schedules and music calendars
Maintain music library, equipment, and instruments
Manage communications with choir, musicians, other church staff, and pastor
Coordinate with audio/visual and technical teams
Manage music-related budgets as assigned
Work with administrative staff to provide information for bulletins and other church communications
Ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements (e.g., CCLI)
Collaboration and Ministry
Collaborate with church staff and ministry leaders on worship-related initiatives
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and church events as required
Provide sensitivity and spiritual leadership within the music ministry
Encourage congregational participation and worship engagement
Along with the Pastor, focus on growth and outreach through music by creating new ministry opportunities to engage the community, children, and to collaborate on missional efforts of the church
Support / Promote the mission and vision of the church
Create an invitational and engaging, creative music ministry
QUALIFICATIONS Required
Strong musical proficiency (vocal and/or instrumental)
Experience leading music in a church or worship setting
Ability to read music and/or lead from charts
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
A growing personal Christian faith and commitment to the mission of the church
Basic computer competency – Google platforms
Preferred
Degree or formal training in music, worship leadership, or a related field
Experience directing choirs or bands
Familiarity with worship planning software and sound systems
Familiarity with UMC liturgy and traditional worship practices
An interest/giftedness for working with children and young families as a growing edge
Understanding of Wesleyan theology and the United Methodist Church

Dependable and well-organized
Comfortable working with volunteers of varied skill levels
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION Expected to work Sundays and additional rehearsals, events, and ministry opportunities during the week with flexibility
