Job Description Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine R&D is recruiting for a Director, Portfolio - Therapeutics Discovery. This position is a hybrid role and will be located in Spring House, PA.

The Director, Portfolio - Therapeutics Discovery will serve as the central point of contact and executor for all training, capability building, operational guidance, and development of Project Leaders within Therapeutics Discovery, leveraging deep expertise in Discovery and its end-to-end processes.

Principal Responsibilities

Design, facilitate and continuously improve a comprehensive Project Leader (PL) and Project Team training curriculum, including business acumen, simulation training, and Team Dynamics programs that strengthen the effectiveness of Discovery Project Teams.

Provide expert project management support to select Discovery teams, including scenario planning, critical path analysis, and team formation facilitation to ensure teams operate with clarity, alignment and efficiency.

Lead team specific workshops for teams in need, helping them identify root causes of collaboration challenges and translating these into clear, concrete, and actionable improvement plans, while actively navigating people dynamics and supporting conflict resolution to restore high-functioning team effectiveness.

As a trusted advisor to PLs, foster a connected, high-performing Therapeutics Discovery (TD) PL community through forums, mentoring, onboarding, assessment moments and individual connect points.

Contribute to portfolio team operations by reinforcing portfolio reporting processes, supporting tool development and strengthening aligned ways of working across the TD portfolio.

Qualifications

A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Biological Science, Chemical Science or related scientific discipline is required.

A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required.

Knowledge/understanding of pharmaceutical and the discovery portfolio is required.

Extensive experience supporting discovery project teams and navigating fast paced, high science environments with continuously shifting priorities is required.

Strong experience in designing, delivering, and continuously improving training programs focused on teaming, collaboration, leadership, and team dynamics is required.

Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to translate complex team challenges into clear insights and actionable plans through structured workshops and guided sessions, required.

Strong project management capabilities, including scenario planning, critical path analysis, and team formation facilitation to strengthen clarity and execution, preferred.

Experience as a proven leader on complex initiatives is required.

Experience coaching and mentoring project leaders and team members is required.

Experience with portfolio management is preferred.

Experience as a discovery bench scientist is preferred.

Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.

Must have strong interpersonal and influencing skills.

Must have strong leadership skills.

The ability to understand team dynamics, recognize interpersonal patterns, and proactively guide teams toward more effective ways of working.

The ability to manage multiple parallel training streams, team support activities, and community building initiatives in a dynamic Discovery environment is required.

The ability to collaborate with global cross-functional teams in diverse cultural and scientific settings is required.

This position will require up to 15% domestic and international travel.
