Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Fine Arts, or Applied Arts and Sciences or a related field. Three years of experience in a related field. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose Of Position
Performs complex creative and professional work for the Integrated Marketing & Communications (IMC) Content Communications Department, serving as a lead visual storyteller for the university. Responsible for the creative conception, capture, and artistic production of photography and videography of university-related subjects, events, and environments for use across publications, digital platforms, marketing materials, and institutional media. Produces work that shapes and advances the university’s visual identity and narrative, supporting marketing and communications initiatives, media engagement, and executive-level priorities through original, high-quality visual storytelling and consistent brand representation.
Primary Responsibilities
Conceives, plans, captures, and edits original photographic images representing academic programs, campus life, events, athletics, faculty, staff, students, and leadership.
Provides high-quality, professional photography in support of university marketing and communications initiatives, media engagement, and Office of the President events.
Covers live events with timely, high-impact delivery of visual content for digital platforms.
Plans and manages photo sessions, including lighting design, composition, and location strategy.
Enhances, retouches, and prepares images for use in print and digital formats, including brochures, magazines, websites, social media, and internal publications.
Maintains an extensive, current, and well-organized library of professionally curated photographic images representing all aspects of university life.
Disseminates photographic images to news media and other authorized entities in alignment with institutional guidelines.
Captures and edits original video content that supports university marketing and communications efforts.
Films interviews, events, b-roll, and campus footage for use in web, social media, presentations, and other institutional platforms.
Edits video content using professional software, ensuring effective pacing, sound quality, basic graphics integration, and brand alignment.
Prepares video assets in multiple formats optimized for intended platforms and audiences.
Maintains, organizes, and archives digital photo and video assets with appropriate metadata and standards.
Operates and maintains photography and video equipment, lighting, and accessories.
Maintains a current equipment inventory.
Prepares images and video for reproduction, distribution, and long-term institutional use.
Supports strategic initiatives through visual documentation and creative asset development.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Work requires considerable creative and technical expertise in photography and videography. Demonstrates strong knowledge of photographic techniques, materials, processes, and equipment. Maintains proficiency in industry-standard editing software, including Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, and working knowledge of video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent. Exhibits creativity, initiative, and strong attention to detail. Effectively manages multiple projects and deadlines while collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders. May experience exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Performs occasional physical demands related to carrying equipment and working in varied environments. Position may require prolonged standing and walking. Occasional travel is required. Maintains knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws. Demonstrates the ability to supervise business functions as assigned. Communicates effectively with other university departments, personnel, and external agencies. Photographs events occasionally after hours and/or on weekends as needed.
