What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Assign appropriate diagnosis codes (ICD-10) and procedure codes (CPT/HCPCS) to patient encounters based on medical documentation
Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations from organizations like the AMA and CMS
Analyze medical records to extract pertinent information for coding purposes
Maintain high accuracy and quality in coding assignments to ensure proper reimbursement
Participate in coding audits and documentation improvement initiatives
What is Required (Qualifications)
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Medical Coding Experience of 3-5 years required
In-depth knowledge of medical coding systems, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate coding
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Certified Professional Coder - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred
Familiarity with coding guidelines and regulations set by relevant organizations
Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
