RIT's Controller's Office is seeking a Director, Financial Reporting, preferably a CPA, to oversee critical financial reporting activities and ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of institutional financial information. In this role, you'll guide a team of reporting professionals, strengthen financial controls, and shape processes that support compliance and informed decision‑making across campus. You'll collaborate with senior management, oversee reporting cycles, partner on audit activities, and help translate complex financial data into meaningful insights. Ideal candidates bring deep technical accounting expertise, strong analytical and leadership skills, and a passion for building efficient, reliable financial reporting frameworks in a dynamic higher‑education environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Oversees quarterly financial reporting including forecasts for fiscal year‑end results of operations. Prepares the year‑end management discussion and analysis, including presentations for senior management and committees of the Board of Trustees.

Develops the appropriate infrastructure and provides direction to the financial reporting staff responsible for ensuring that accounting transactions are accurately recorded and in compliance with internal policies and GAAP.

Monitors the external environment for changes in regulatory requirements, new accounting pronouncements and emerging high‑risk areas. Partners with internal stakeholders to develop processes to ensure compliance and internal controls designed to mitigate risk.

Leads the development of custom financial reports utilizing business software reporting tools and reviews output to ensure the accuracy of the financial transactions.

Oversees annual year‑end audit engagements with the institution's external auditor including establishing audit dates, soliciting/collecting materials and financial data from key individuals across campus. Acts as the primary point of contact for the external auditors to ensure efficient and effective audit engagement.

Develops and implements internal controls designed to ensure that accounting transactions are accurately recorded, and financial statements are accurate and in accordance with GAAP.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of accounting, finance, and budgeting practices and protocols to ensure accurate financial management and compliance.

Knowledge of enterprise‑wide financial applications and Microsoft Office.

Skill in determining, implementing, and monitoring internal controls to prevent errors and risk.

Skill in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and customer service.

Ability to analyze complex financial data to identify trends, solve problems, and recommend solutions.

Ability to lead teams, guide decision making, and provide financial oversight in alignment with institutional goals.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in related field.

6 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent combination of experience & education may be considered.

Shapes overall success within team or department through planning, coordination, resource allocation, strategy execution, and determination of staffing to ensure achievement of operational results.

Work Location Hybrid

Compensation $93,600 - $145,100
