at Brown Strauss. This role is critical in driving revenue growth, strengthening customer relationships, and aligning sales performance with branch and company objectives. The Sales Manager will oversee both Account Managers and Territory Managers for the Kansas City branch, ensuring disciplined execution of sales strategies, competitive pricing practices, and exceptional customer service.

In this role, you will oversee the quotation process, collaborate with the General Manager and Purchasing to establish competitive and profitable pricing, and ensure consistent follow‑up on open and lost orders. You will work closely with Territory Managers in the field—conducting ride‑alongs, supporting call planning, reviewing reports, and building relationships with key accounts. You will also communicate market intelligence, pricing trends, competitive insights, and inventory challenges to drive informed decision‑making across the branch.

A strong leader and coach, the Sales Manager will recruit, train, and mentor sales professionals to maximize long‑term performance. This role requires a hands‑on leader who can balance strategic planning with day‑to‑day execution, adjust territories and workloads as needed, resolve customer issues, and maintain a high standard of professionalism in every interaction.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sales professional (5+ years minimum, ideally within the steel industry) with previous management experience, strong analytical and forecasting skills, and the ability to perform under pressure. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to operational excellence in a fast-paced commercial construction environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Key elements of the job entail, but are not limited to, the following:

Oversight of the Account Managers.

Oversee the quotation process. Work with General Manager and Purchasing to establish pricing for quotations. Follow‑up on open orders and gather lost order information.

Assist with workload as needed, fine‑tune territory assignments, and resolve customer issues.

Oversight of the Territory Managers.

Ride along on sales calls, establish relationships with top accounts, participation in entertainment as needed. Occasional travel and overnight trips may be required.

Review call reports, assist with sales call planning, approve expenses and entertainment plans.

Communicate market developments, strategic initiatives, pricing feedback, competitor information, and inventory issues to the team. Schedule and lead sales meetings as needed. Communicate any service or target account information to the warehouse as needed.

Recruit, hire, train, monitor, and coach the sales team to maximize long‑term performance in accordance with branch and company goals.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor in Business Administration or similar preferred.

Experience: Sales experience in the steel industry in both an inside and outside sales role is ideal. 5 years of sales experience minimum.

Previous management experience highly preferred.

Organizational & Analytical Skills: Ability to multi‑task, meet deadlines, complete complex assignments, employ mathematical skills, and generate sales forecasts.

Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills.

Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Professionalism: Represents the company well by maintaining professional behavior with customers, suppliers, and within the industry. Treats others with respect regardless of their status or position. Reacts well under pressure.
