General Purpose The Mortgage Sales Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the credit union’s mortgage sales team. The primary focus will be to lead and manage the mortgage sales team, develop loan programs, implement sales strategies, and align staff duties with business goals.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Lead mortgage lending team to meet or exceed production goals; to continuously improve the profit contribution to the Credit Union from the residential mortgage line of business and/or the level of mortgage services for the membership.
Implement and promote mortgage product and service offerings to meet members’ needs.
Develop and execute effective sales strategies to achieve production goals established by management.
Work closely with loan originators to structure mortgage transactions within credit and pricing parameters.
Monitor team performance, including loan volume, quality, and member satisfaction.
Work cross‑functionally to manage the mortgage pipeline and to ensure mortgage closings are timely and in compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
Lead the mortgage lenders in business development efforts.
Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Assist the Vice President Mortgage Lending with respect to recommendations for hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, and training and development. Also assist the Vice President Mortgage Lending with the interpretation of credit union rules and policies for department personnel. Conduct all personnel functions in accordance with applicable statutes (e.g., EEO, OSHA, Fair Labor, etc.).
Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive, and technology environments that may affect the real estate lending function. Recommend management new products, services or technology that will benefit our membership.
Ensure lending procedures are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
Maintain organizational structure established by President. Organize staff personnel into effective and efficient work groups. Ensure that direct reports are granted proper authority and responsibility to carry out assigned functions. Review work systems to reduce duplication of effort and unnecessary work.
Assist in the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of internal controls, as well as policies and procedures for the real estate lending area.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible for the development of department budget consistent with the strategic plan and overall Credit Union budget.
Prepare standardized reports as directed by Vice President of Mortgage Lending.
Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to enhance lead generation and member acquisition.
Cross‑sell and refer other BHFCU, BHIS and BHFCU Insurance Services products and services
Perform other duties as may be assigned by Vice President Mortgage Lending.
Job Knowledge
Familiarity with the credit union industry’s philosophy, products, and services.
Extensive knowledge of mortgage industry underwriting standards, mortgage loan portfolio management, mortgage portfolio servicing, mortgage pricing as well as collections and foreclosure processes.
Extensive knowledge of all mortgage regulatory requirements that affect or may affect the Credit Union.
Extensive knowledge of FHA, VA, SD housing loans as well as residential secondary mortgage market and its investors.

Minimum of three years of related experience in mortgage sales or lending. Strong leadership and communication skills are a must. Robust knowledge of mortgage industry regulations and trends with a proven track record of achieving sales targets.

Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions (continued) Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate‑controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
