Outside Sales Rep (Valve & Hydrant Service) The Outside Sales Rep (Valve & Hydrant Services) will be responsible for maximizing the financial performance of their territory by expanding the sales of Xylem’s Wachs Water Services capabilities for single and multi‑year projects. In this role, the incumbent will drive differentiated customer experiences, utilize service knowledge to address customers’ water distribution and asset management needs, and combine market intelligence, data‑driven insights and a deep understanding of customer needs to identify trends, “white space” opportunities, and develop areas of competitive advantage to drive revenue growth.

Core Responsibilities

Maximize the financial performance of the region by expanding the service contracts of Xylem’s Wachs Water Services capabilities.

Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns.

Provide prompt and accurate responses to client inquiries and requests, proactively identifying and communicating potential sales opportunities.

Grow and maintain an effective sales pipeline utilizing SalesForce.com.

Establish new accounts while maintaining and increasing the sales volume of territory accounts in compliance with all company policies, instructions, and directives.

Apply application technologies to provide useful and practical service solutions to customers, seeking new uses for company products.

Work in conjunction with Marketing to drive bid reporting services and lead management, building company image to drive new opportunities and brand recognition within the territory.

Collaborate with different groups to design and execute strategies that generate demand and drive growth through customer acquisition, retention, and win‑back.

Create synergy opportunities for cross‑business selling based on Xylem solution set awareness.

Regularly gather and analyze business, market and competitor information and support the development of the strategic marketing plan.

Prepare and assist with various sales reports, including audits, bids, proposals, quotes, forecasting, and expense reports.

Attend, participate and demonstrate thought leadership in sales meetings, training programs, and trade shows as directed.

Build industry and customer alliances and participate in industry/trade organizations.

Assist in the field training of any sales representative as requested.

Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

4+ years of sales, marketing or business development experience (municipal or water distribution preferred) or equivalent exposure.

Thorough knowledge of consultative/value‑based selling.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills.

Knowledge of water distribution systems, valves, hydrants, leak detection, hydraulics, pneumatics, water flow, diesel, gas, and electric motors in pumps and pumping systems.

Previous experience with Salesforce.com or other CRM’s is required.

Ability to present service education seminars to groups of 20‑40 people.

Effective interpersonal skills with customers, employees, and management.

Strong teamwork and organizational skills; ability to multi‑task.

Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities in a self‑driven manner.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, GIS, and computer applications.

Ability to maintain authorization to operate a company vehicle.

Travel: up to approximately 75% in North America.

Day in the Life

Regularly sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about the facility.

Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.

Job Site: Intermittent exposure to municipal streets, high traffic and residential areas, water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, and all outdoor weather conditions; intermittent exposure to shop and job site noise up to 95 decibels.

Standard weekly job hours: 40.

Salary The estimated salary range for this position is $82,000 to $120,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors such as skills, experience and work location.
