Job Summary The Customer Service Representative greets and assists The Barkin’ customers and volunteers, helps to display and shelve product, and answers phones and customer queries.

They also greet donors and receive, sort, prepare and price donations for sale while assisting other employees in all functions of running the retail store.

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Supervisor: The Barkin’ Manager

Location: The Barkin' in Hailey, ID

Qualifications Should have previous knowledge of register function and cash handling

Should have great customer service and people skills

Must be a highly motivated team player, outgoing and polite, and behave professionally

Must work well with the public, including persons of varied racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual preference, and with individuals who are differently-abled

Must have a current driver’s license and satisfactory driving record along with personal car insurance

Must be comfortable training, mentoring and providing feedback to volunteers and community service

Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work well in a team or on your own.

Must complete a satisfactory background check

Position Duties

Ensure the store is clean and ready for customers:

Walkways and doorways are clear

Sale items are stored in the proper area

All displays are organized, clean and safe

Greet and assist customers/donors with impeccable customer service

Run cash register and ring up customer purchases

Stay up to date on sales and discounts available to customers, volunteers and employees

Count cash/change in registers both morning (opening) and evening (closing); fill out appropriate paperwork

Help make dressing rooms and locked cases are available to and convenient for customers

Follow pricing guidelines to assess and price goods for retail sale

Direct all returns and complaints to the Store Manager or assistant manager

Assist in the daily cleaning of store and cat enclosures as needed

Assist with heavy lifting and rotation of product, including furniture

Help keep all workspaces clean and organized for all, including both the back room and basement

Accept, sort and price donations from the public

Add retail items to the sales floor daily

Price and sort linens and clothing

Clean and ready items for display

Check for hangers, clothing on floor, trash or misplaced items every hour

Test all electronics to ensure good working condition

Help with offsite donation pickups as necessary, which may include driving a company vehicle or box truck.

Keep track of supplies for the truck and sorting area

Watch for possible theft

Communicate clearly and listen with tact and empathy

Uphold and provide information on Barkin’ policies, programs and events

Carry out other duties as assigned by Store Manager or Assistant Manager

General Guidelines

Maintain a neat and well-groomed personal appearance

Wear supplied uniforms and closed toed shoes during all working hours

Comply with all facility safety protocols

Assist in maintaining overall facility cleaning standards

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Work safely and effectively in an environment with possible exposure to dust, mold, allergens, chemicals, animal waste, and sharp edges such as knives and broken glass

Frequent interactions with children who may or may not be well-behaved, and regular contact with the public in a potentially emotionally charged environment

Animal handling required; while all adoptable animals have health and behavior screening by nature of the industry, there may be occasional exposure to dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases

May require driving of company vehicles; Must maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record; Drivers information will be submitted to the carrier

Regular use driving of company vehicles; employee’s must be at least the age of 18

Occasional use driving of company vehicles; employees under the age of 18 must be preapproved by the carrier

Work day includes walking, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, lifting (occasionally up to 50 lbs), answering telephones, and using a computer, work with a variety of cleaning agents, and work in an environment with daily changes in climate

Hours, Salary & Benefits Hours: Full-time position, Tuesday through Sunday

Salary: $20-$22/hour, depending on experience, certifications, proficiency in job tasks, and ability to work cooperatively while fostering the mission of the organization.
