Position Summary Action Traffic Maintenance, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our growing preconstruction team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to develop their estimating skills across a variety of highway, civil, and infrastructure project types. Working closely with senior estimators and project managers, the Junior Estimator will support the full bid lifecycle – from initial project review through final bid submission.

Essential Job Functions

Respond to correspondence (phone, email, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.

Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and bid documents for our Fence & Cable Barrier division, but could also include Guardrail, Traffic Control, Sign Installation, and Drilled Shaft Foundations.

Assist in preparing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.

Develop and distribute invitations to bid (ITBs) to subcontractors and suppliers.

Contact and follow up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure adequate bid coverage.

Assist in preparing scope sheets and bid summaries.

Support the estimating team on bid day – compiling and reviewing proposals prior to submission.

Attend pre-bid meetings and project site walks as needed.

Maintain organized bid files and documentation throughout the estimating process.

Assist with project handoff to the project management team upon award.

Collaborate with leadership to continuously improve estimating accuracy and processes.

Work under deadlines in a fast‑paced environment to plan and coordinate all aspects of the project, including the ability to adjust quickly to complete a project according to the contract.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in construction management, project management, or building construction – preferred.

0–3 years of experience in a construction environment in an assistant, coordinator, technician‑type role, or as a junior estimator, preferably within highway construction.

Demonstrated knowledge of construction operations and highway construction & Fence principles – preferred.

Action Traffic’s discretion: may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient skill in using office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Strong interpersonal skills, obtaining buy‑in and reaching consensus through collaborative efforts.

Customer‑orientated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time‑management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to assess situations, solve problems, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergencies.

Understanding of how to read blueprints.

Skill in assembling and analyzing data and preparing accurate reports.

Physical Demands And Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, view, and create written documents. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment is also required. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Work occurs near moving mechanical equipment and is exposed to weather conditions, uneven terrain, fumes, airborne particles, and noxious odors. Noise level is usually moderate but can be loud when working in the field.
