Director of Data Center Design

Job Description Join our dynamic team as a Director of Data Center Design, where you will lead the development of innovative strategies for operational planning and design optimization of our data center white space. You will be responsible for enhancing our facilities including rack layout, power distribution, and cable pathways, ensuring that our design meets global organizational goals. Responsibilities White Space and Infrastructure Design: Develop strategic plans for the design and optimization of data center white space, aligning with our organizational objectives. Ensure comprehensive documentation, including room layouts and cabling designs, is accurate and maintains consistency with goals. Create and enforce design standards and Basis of Design (BoD) documents to guide our internal teams and partners. Oversee low voltage structured cabling system designs, promoting innovative approaches to enhance capabilities. Manage and review site layouts and fit-out designs, ensuring compliance with established standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead engagements with colocation providers, developers, and internal teams to translate requirements into successful white space designs. Influence engineering functions to ensure reliable system performance and integration. Facilitate project coordination meetings to align on design updates and timelines. Shape collaborative strategies with technology partners to optimize resource allocation. Project and Program Leadership: Guide design initiatives and engineering projects from inception through execution, ensuring strategic objectives are met. Inspire and coordinate project team members across various phases of design and commissioning. Oversee project deliverables to ensure they exceed expectations and adhere to schedules. Provide expertise in contract administration and strategic alignment with project objectives. Mentor and develop junior team members to strengthen our capabilities. Operations Support and Site Validation: Lead on-site design validation and engineering analysis to improve outcomes across our data centers. Act as a subject matter expert for mission-critical systems, enhancing long-term operational improvements. Oversee engineering support during live events to ensure operational continuity. Ensure documentation is meticulously captured and shared with operations teams. Standards Development and Governance: Create and refine global data center infrastructure standards and policies. Guide documentation development to ensure compliance and accuracy. Facilitate design summits and commission activities to foster a culture of improvement. Technical Innovation and Engineering Excellence: Direct research and assessment of new designs and construction methods to enhance data center reliability and efficiency. Oversee the development of engineering solutions and validate digital models for design integrity. Manage initiatives to enhance skills through training and knowledge sharing across the team. Network Expertise: Define collaboration strategies with networking teams for network-related projects. Automation: Collaborate with software engineering to integrate design data into automated systems. The hiring range for this position is $139,400 to $291,800 per annum, with eligibility for bonuses and other benefits.
