The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is on the lookout for committed individuals for entry-level Border Patrol Agent positions. We are offering full-time opportunities in law enforcement, where your background in public safety, security, military service, or law enforcement can serve as a strong foundation. We are currently hiring, and in addition to a competitive salary, exceptional benefits, and job stability, we are providing up to $60,000 in incentive packages (details below). Salary and Benefits Newly appointed BPAs earn annual base salaries ranging from GL-5/GL-7 at $51,632 to $92,219 per year. Border Patrol Agents enjoy a variety of federal employment benefits, including health, dental, and other insurance plans, a robust annual and sick leave program, and access to the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement option similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k). Recruitment Incentive Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can receive up to $20,000 in incentives, with $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting a designated priority location. Retention Incentive Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives over their first four years. Duty Assignments Please be aware that duty assignments could involve locations along the Southwest Border, which may necessitate relocation. Your preferred duty locations will be collected at the time of application. Duties and Responsibilities As a Border Patrol Agent, you will be part of a dedicated workforce committed to protecting the American populace by monitoring and securing our borders, deterring illegal activities, and enhancing national prosperity. Your typical responsibilities will include: Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers using surveillance techniques, including night operations. Interpreting tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry. Conducting various checks (e.g., farm, building, traffic, city patrols). Patrolling international boundaries using various government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, and motorcycles. Qualifications For GL-5 grade level, you qualify if you have: One year of general work experience demonstrating your ability to make sound decisions, remain composed in stressful situations, and gather information efficiently; Or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Or a combination of experience and education. For GL-7 grade level, you need: One year of specialized work experience that includes law enforcement skills such as sound judgment with firearms, effective interpersonal communication, and prompt decision-making; Or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or a graduate-level education in a relevant field; Or a combination of experience and education.
