
Athletics Communications Coordinator

Responsibilities
Manages complaints and disputes from other institutions and media outlets working as an intermediary between various stakeholders, including coaches, student-athletes, university administrators, and theNCAA/Conference offices. Promotes teams and programs through written content, including press releases, game recaps, game programs, media guides and feature stories. Acts as the frontline spokesperson for various teams, responding to media requests, supervising statistical crews and other media support personnel. Travels with assigned teams to cover games and events. Coordinates and manages media events, including interviews, press conferences, and credentialing. Leads and manages sport-specific content updates on the athletics website and official social media platforms. Works with all external departments to create a social media strategy and consistent messaging across all platforms, bringing to life the question, “Who is UIWAthletics?” Ensures financial accountability by managing media deliverables tied to corporate sponsorship agreements, including brand placement, digital exposure, and promotional content, to fulfill contractual obligations and protect revenue-generating partnerships. Enforces communications and branding policies in line with theNCAA, Southland Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regulations. Shapes and maintains the athletic department’s external brand identity and ensures consistent messaging across all platforms. Coordinates media logistics for ESPN+ broadcast, to include in-game statistical reporting. Plans both long-term and short-term objectives for the Athletic Department related to media relations, branding, and digital strategy. Supports brand building to increase growth, engagement, and the overall branding of UIWAthletics against other division one universities in the state. Assists with crisis communications and serves as a strategic advisor to senior athletic leadership in public relations efforts. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Two (2) years experience in the athletics communications field. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook or equivalent. Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator. Ability to learn and effectively use StatCrew and NCAALiveStats. Superlative writing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Strong multitasking and project management skills. Detail-oriented and organized. Tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality, when required. Ability to establish structure during periods of change and growth. Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. Ability to follow the mission of the university. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and theNCAA.
