Overview We’re building tomorrow’s fleet today. With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding Division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. We’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface navy fleet.

Role Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer‑aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposals. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Excludes classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Must Have

Associate’s degree or other two‑year technical degree in a related discipline and six years of experience (or a combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree).

Nice to Have

Background in Naval Architecture and Outfitting Design with proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.

Complete understanding of ship design practices and blueprint‑reading skills.

Experience in quality assurance and development of naval architecture and outfitting drawings for U.S. naval ship modifications and overhauls.

Ensuring all technical requirements are fully embedded into deliverable products while following applicable procedures and standards.

Familiarity with all components of U.S. Navy Naval Architecture Systems.
