Job Summary
Under general supervision, administers a complete garage parts operation and catalogs, orders, and maintains inventory of automotive and equipment parts for the City garage; writes service work orders for required maintenance for City equipment.

Examples of Duties
Administers and controls the garage parts operation;
Prepares shop work orders for repairs to City equipment;
Recommends and determines stock needed for current use based upon equipment maintained and past needs for parts;
Orders required parts from vendors and manufacturers;
Operates computer and charges out parts and services to the appropriate department/division;
Reviews the performance of various automotive parts and makes recommendations on selection of brands;
Maintains records of parts and supplies received and issued; maintains the balance of parts in stock;
Prepares various reports as needed;
Conducts periodic inventory of stock;
Unloads or assists in the unloading of parts and supplies;
Maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records and operating costs records;
Obtains information on various makes of vehicles and construction equipment for review by the Fleet Superintendent;
Completes appropriate requisitions and purchase order requests;
Monitors outsourced repairs and cost;
Monitors and tracks accident repairs;
Monitors towing of City equipment; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED supplemented by courses in purchasing and recordkeeping; and
Three (3) years of related experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ASE Certification and/or related vocational diploma/degree preferred.
Knowledge Of
The materials and parts used in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and other equipment; and
The methods and practices used in maintaining inventory control records.
Skilled In
Operating office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine; and
Oral and written communication.
Ability To
Administer and coordinate an effective parts operation;
Maintain clerical records and prepare consolidated reports from those records;
Make rapid and accurate arithmetical calculations;
Read catalogs or computer displays in order to determine replacement part stock numbers and prices; and
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and employees.
