Role Description This is a full‑time, on‑site role in Rochester, NY, for an Assistant Public Defender in the Criminal Trial Section. The Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for representing clients in criminal proceedings, preparing legal defenses, and advocating for clients in court. Daily responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing discovery, analyzing case law, building case strategies, filing legal documents, and providing legal counsel to clients. Active participation in courtroom proceedings and collaboration with other attorneys and members of the office will also be required.
Qualifications
Proficiency in Criminal Defense and a comprehensive understanding of Criminal Law
Experience working within the Courts system and handling criminal cases
Strong skills in Legal Assistance and proficient in providing client‑centered representation
In-depth knowledge of Law and relevant legal procedures
Effective communication, advocacy, and organizational skills
Commitment to social justice and representing individuals facing economic challenges
Experience managing a caseload and working in a fast‑paced legal environment is a plus
