Graphic Designer

Crossing Hurdles, San Francisco, CA, United States

Crossing Hurdles is a global recruitment firm partnering with a stealth-stage, design-first consumer AI company that is redefining how people interact with intelligence in everyday life.

The company is building a new kind of consumer experience that moves beyond traditional chat interfaces toward more intuitive, predictive, and visually expressive systems. Their approach sits at the intersection of AI, design, and human behavior — focusing on creating products that feel less like tools and more like extensions of identity and daily experience.

With early funding secured, a small elite team, and a strong founder‑led vision, the company is in its earliest phase — where design is not just a function, but the core of the product.

Role : Founding Graphic Designer (IC)

Compensation : $200K – $500K + 1%–5% equity

Location : San Francisco (in-office, 5 days/week)

Experience : 5+ years in Graphic / Visual Design (or exceptional portfolio)

Focus : Brand systems, visual identity, digital + physical design (non-UI/UX)

About The Role

Own the visual language of the product and brand from day one, shaping how the company expresses itself across digital and physical surfaces.

Design visual elements and moments within the consumer product, focusing on aesthetics, emotion, and identity rather than traditional UI/UX flows.

Translate digital design into physical experiences including merchandise, packaging, print, and collectible artifacts.

Collaborate directly with the founder to execute and evolve a strong, opinionated brand identity while pushing it into new creative territories.

Develop typography systems, iconography, patterns, and visual frameworks that operate within a rule‑based design system.

Create brand assets for marketing, social media, and real-world placements, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints.

Push creative boundaries within constraints — balancing structure with experimentation to discover new visual possibilities.

Operate as a highly hands‑on individual contributor, producing a high volume of original, high‑quality creative work.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in graphic, visual, or brand design — or a portfolio that makes years irrelevant.

Strong portfolio demonstrating a distinct, original aesthetic point of view and a high volume of creative work.

Background in top design agencies, creative studios, or culturally relevant brands (fashion, editorial, luxury, media).

Experience working across multiple mediums including branding, print, packaging, merchandise, and digital visuals.

Ability to translate abstract ideas and creative direction into compelling visual outputs.

Comfort working within rule‑based visual systems while pushing creative boundaries.

Hands‑on execution mindset — not purely managerial or strategy‑focused.

Strong taste level, attention to detail, and obsession with craft.

Willingness to work on‑site in San Francisco five days a week.

Why You Should Consider

Define a new visual language from the ground up at a company where design is central to the product vision.

Work directly with a proven founder building at the intersection of AI, identity, and consumer experience.

Operate in a highly creative, design‑led environment with more designers than engineers.

Build across digital and physical mediums, shaping a brand that exists beyond screens.

High ownership and autonomy in a zero‑to‑one environment with minimal process and maximum creative freedom.

Join at the earliest stage with meaningful equity and the opportunity to shape a category‑defining product.

Work on problems that are emotional, human, and culturally relevant — not just functional or enterprise‑driven.
