About the Role As an Interior Designer at HFG Architecture, you will support the planning and design of interior environments for healthcare facilities, contributing to projects from early concept development through construction documentation. You will collaborate closely with architects, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to create spaces that enhance the patient experience, support staff workflows, and meet healthcare industry standards.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Design Development & Creative Vision
Collaborate with clients and internal design teams to develop thoughtful interior design concepts that align with project goals, brand identity, and healthcare design best practices.
Create space plans, mood boards, material palettes, and renderings to effectively communicate design intent and bring concepts to life.
Apply creativity and design expertise to create environments that support healing, comfort, and efficiency for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
Stay current on industry trends, emerging materials, and innovative healthcare design strategies.
Healthcare Planning & Functional Design
Utilize healthcare design principles to develop interior layouts that support patient flow, staff workflows, and overall spatial efficiency.
Consider critical factors such as accessibility, infection control, patient safety, and staff well‑being when planning and designing interior environments.
Integrate healthcare‑specific requirements into design solutions while balancing aesthetics, functionality, and operational needs.
Material Selection & Specifications
Research, evaluate, and specify appropriate materials, finishes, furnishings, and fixtures for healthcare environments.
Select products that meet healthcare‑specific requirements such as durability, cleanability, infection control, and sustainability.
Maintain an understanding of available products, finish options, and vendor capabilities to ensure high‑quality design outcomes.
Documentation & Technical Coordination
Prepare detailed interior design drawings, specifications, and documentation that clearly communicate design intent and meet project requirements.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure interior elements are seamlessly integrated into the overall project documentation.
Review and approve shop drawings, finish submittals, and product selections to ensure alignment with the design vision and project specifications.
Client Collaboration & Communication
Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their design goals, operational needs, and project constraints.
Present design concepts, material selections, and layouts clearly and confidently while incorporating client feedback into the design process.
Maintain strong communication throughout the project to ensure alignment, clarity, and successful project outcomes.
Code Compliance & Sustainable Design
Stay current with building codes, regulations, and healthcare industry guidelines related to interior design.
Ensure all designs meet applicable standards, including accessibility requirements, life safety codes, and infection control protocols.
Promote and integrate environmentally sustainable design practices, considering energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and responsible material selection.
Travel Requirements This role includes occasional travel for project‑related needs, including site visits, client meetings, or industry events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design or a related field.
3+ years of professional interior design experience.
Proficiency in Revit or similar tools; experience with 3D modeling and rendering software is a plus. Knowledge of or willingness to learn healthcare design principles, including infection control, patient safety, and accessibility requirements.
Familiarity with industry‑standard design tools, finish materials, and specification platforms. Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly convey design concepts to clients and project teams.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail. Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Creativity, curiosity, and a strong eye for aesthetics, materials, and design trends.
Familiarity with sustainability and green building practices in healthcare environments is a plus.
