The Senior Estimator leads complex estimating efforts and plays a key role in developing high-quality, accurate bids and proposals for commercial construction projects. This role independently manages detailed estimates, supports strategy development for pursuits, mentors junior estimators, and partners cross-functionally with preconstruction, design teams, operations, and subcontractors to ensure thorough, competitive, and well-coordinated cost proposals. The Senior Estimator applies strong technical expertise, advanced analytical capability, and industry knowledge to support predictable project outcomes and exceptional client experience. Operational Excellence Lead the preparation of conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates across all major construction disciplines. Organize and perform advanced quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and bid-leveling exercises. Analyze project drawings, specifications, addenda, and other documents to determine scope, constructability considerations, and cost impacts. Develop clarification lists, scope narratives, and assumption documents to strengthen estimate accuracy. Prepare and manage subcontractor bid packages, ensuring clear scope definition and comprehensive coverage. Evaluate subcontractor proposals for completeness, alignment with project requirements, and consistency with company standards. Support value engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining design and performance intent. Participate in pre-bid meetings, design reviews, and project planning sessions. Ensure estimates and supporting documentation are complete, consistent, and ready for review by leadership. Maintain historical cost data and apply trends, benchmarks, and market insights to future estimates. Strategy & Plan Execution Collaborate with the Director of Preconstruction to develop estimating strategies for pursuits and proposals. Provide cost insights, schedule considerations, and risk evaluations that shape approach, pricing, and project positioning. Support preparation of final bid submissions, owner presentations, and proposal documents. Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating systems, templates, databases, and process standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with project managers and operations leaders to support handoff meetings and early project planning. Coordinate with design professionals to resolve discrepancies, clarify questions, and support design development through cost feedback. Serve as a resource and mentor to Estimators, Estimating Coordinators/Bid Coordinators, and other preconstruction team members. Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners. Risk Management Identify cost, schedule, design, and constructability risks and develop recommendations for mitigation. Ensure all cost assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, and market considerations are captured and communicated. Support compliance with internal estimating standards and risk review processes. Analysis & Reporting Prepare detailed estimate reports, bid summaries, scope analyses, and cost breakdowns. Track and interpret market pricing trends, labor availability, escalation indicators, and material lead times. Provide insights and recommendations that support leadership decision-making. Supervision Received General Direction. Plans and arranges own work. Uses a wide range of procedures to accomplish assigned objectives. Supervision Responsibilities Informal Supervision. Determines work assignments, priorities, and procedures for team members. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Provides training and coaching to team as requested. Educational & Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field. 8+ years of commercial construction estimating experience required, with demonstrated success leading complex project estimates. Expertise in conceptual estimating, quantity takeoffs, bid leveling, and multi-discipline cost development. Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods, materials, equipment, design systems, and market conditions. Experience working within both general contracting and construction management delivery models.
