Benefits Specialist
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering and managing the organization's employee benefits programs. This role ensures accurate benefits processing, supports employees through all stages of the benefits lifecycle, and maintains compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and committed to providing excellent employee support and service. Reports to: Controller Key Responsibilities Administer all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits. Enroll eligible employees in benefit plans and communicate eligibility requirements within established timelines. Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits questions, eligibility, coverage details, claims assistance, and general support. Coordinate open enrollment activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and managing annual benefit renewals. Process qualifying life event (QLE) changes, benefit terminations, and coverage updates in accordance with plan guidelines. Initiate and manage COBRA notifications and continuation coverage administration. Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure data integrity across the HRIS system and vendor platforms. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including COBRA, ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA. Create and distribute clear benefits communication materials such as enrollment guides, FAQs, presentations, and policy updates. Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and provide ongoing education and support to employees. Coordinate with benefit vendors and brokers to resolve escalated claims issues and coverage discrepancies. Assist with benefits reporting, audits, reconciliations, and invoice reviews to ensure accuracy of billing and enrollment data. Support leave of absence benefits coordination, including tracking benefit premiums and employee responsibilities during leave periods. Maintain employee benefits files and documentation in accordance with company standards and legal requirements. Collaborate with payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate benefit deductions and system updates. Qualifications Associates degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred but not required). 2+ years of experience in benefits administration, human resources, or a related role. Knowledge of employment laws, benefit regulations, and HR best practices. Experience with HRIS systems and benefits platforms (e.g., Paycor, Zizzl, First Stop Health).
