The Joint Commission is hiring: Healthcare Government Relations and Public Polic

Overview

The Healthcare Government Relations and Public Policy intern works primarily with Joint Commission's Government Relations office in Washington, DC. The intern will assist government relations staff with specific projects related to federal healthcare policies, healthcare legislation, and Joint Commission's advocacy priorities (with some exposure to state-focused work). Interns will work out of Joint Commission's Washington D.C. office and attend in-person events in the area.

The Healthcare Government Relations and Public Policy internship offers students the opportunity to build and strengthen skills particularly in research, analysis, and writing. In addition, the internship provides an opportunity for the student to gain an understanding of how healthcare organizations and other stakeholders promote healthcare policies, build relationships with executive branch officials, and interact with legislators.

The internship is an eight-week program beginning June 1, 2026. The position will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hr. for current undergraduate hires, $20.00/hr. for current graduate students).

Responsibilities

• Assists with assigned research projects related to Joint Commission external priorities. This may include researching relevant databases and attending meetings.

• Support the development of external policy maker-facing communications materials, such as product slide decks, fact sheets, issue briefs, and other resources on a variety of healthcare issues.

• Attend briefings, conferences, and Capitol Hill events and provide read-outs from meetings and/or events.

• Support external meetings with other stakeholders and officials as assigned, including preparation for the second annual UNIFY Conference.

Qualifications

Preference for students enrolled in a graduate program in healthcare administration, public health, public policy, law school, medical school with an interest in health policy, or other related fields. Will consider recent graduates or undergraduate students.

• Demonstrated interest in healthcare policy issues.

• Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Research and analysis experiences

• Solid academic record.
