The Marketing Director is a senior enterprise-wide leader responsible for setting and executing the company’s overall marketing strategy in support of business growth, brand strength, and market leadership. As a growing commercial construction general contractor, this role is critical to scaling marketing capabilities, strengthening market presence, and enabling business development success across all market sectors. This role leads the full marketing function, partners closely with executive leadership, business development, and market sectors and geographic office leaders, and manages both internal teams and external resources.

This role requires a highly collaborative, positive, and adaptable leader who builds trust across the organization, empowers team members, encourages innovation, and balances strategic vision with execution. The Marketing Director must recognize when to pull in additional resources, manage simultaneously complex customer priorities, and consistently align marketing efforts with evolving business needs. This leader is expected to deliver The Knutson Experience (TKE), making clients, partners, and employees feel assured, inspired and appreciated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Marketing & Growth

Develop and lead enterprise-wide marketing strategy aligned with company growth objectives and market sector strategies.

Translate company strategy into actionable marketing plans, priorities, and resourcing decisions.

Customize marketing strategies to address unique needs of different market sectors and regions.

Facilitate cross-functional growth planning sessions with executive leadership, business development, operations, and market sector leaders to ensure alignment between strategy, messaging, and market pursuits.

Demand Generation & Business Development Support

Partner closely with business development leaders to support pipeline development and revenue growth.

Develop demand-generation campaigns that support priority markets, clients, and pursuits.

Serve as a trusted, highly collaborative partner to BD and market sector leaders.

Ensure alignment between marketing strategy, sector business plans, and pursuit strategies to drive measurable revenue impact.

Pursuit Planning, Proposals & Storytelling

Lead pursuit planning and proposal strategy for major project opportunities.

Oversee proposal development, messaging, win themes, and content strategy.

Ensure compelling, differentiated storytelling across proposals, presentations, and interviews.

Brand, Creative & Communications

Lead brand strategy, positioning, and brand standards across the enterprise.

Ensure creative strategy, graphic design, and visual storytelling reinforce brand differentiation and support win strategy across priority markets.

Direct marketing communications and public relations strategy, leveraging external PR partners.

Digital Marketing & Market Visibility

Lead digital marketing strategy including website design and content, SEO/SEM, and social media.

Develop thought leadership initiatives including content, speaking opportunities, awards, and publications.

Plan and execute events, sponsorships, conferences, and promotional activities.

Marketing Operations & Analytics

Oversee marketing operations including analytics, reporting, market intelligence, and marketing technologies.

Establish KPIs and dashboards to measure performance and ROI of marketing efforts.

Continuously improve processes, tools, and workflows to support scale and efficiency.

Track and report on marketing’s contribution to pipeline growth, win rates, sector expansion, and revenue outcomes.

Partner with Finance and Business Development to align marketing investment with return on growth objectives.

Team Leadership & Resource Management

Build, lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing marketing team.

Empower team members through trust, coaching, and professional development.

Identify resourcing needs and manage internal and external resources to meet business timelines and quality expectations.

Understand and model Knutson’s commitment to a Zero Incident Safety Culture and clearly communicate Knutson’s expectations and focus on safety.

Partner & External Relationship Management

Manage and optimize relationships with external agencies, consultants, and creative partners.

Lead partner marketing initiatives with key trade partners, consultants, and strategic alliances.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or related field required, advanced degree preferred.

10+ years of progressive marketing or strategic marketing experience.

Minimum of 5 years leading teams and/or managing external resources in delivering marketing, communications, and/or public relations results.

Prior experience in commercial construction or the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry strongly preferred.

Demonstrated success leading enterprise marketing functions including brand, demand generation, proposals, and communications.

Strong business acumen and understanding of relationship-driven sales environments.

Excellent communication, storytelling, and executive presence skills.

Ability to extract, study and understand big picture business needs, market sector-specific needs, market data & intelligence, in order to produce and execute on marketing needs effectively.

Ability to initiate, monitor, and manage several simultaneous projects.

An ability to generate unique ideas, concepts, written materials, and collateral.

Ability to edit written material by modifying/correcting grammar, punctuation, and style according to accepted rules while clarifying the original intended message.
