Director of Planning and Community Development
The Town of Grafton is accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Planning and Community Development. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of current and long-range plans and programs for land use and development. Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
Administering the operation of the Planning Department and its staff
Providing staff support for the Planning Board, Affordable Housing Trust, and other relevant Committees
Reviewing development and land use applications
Creating, maintaining and recommending relevant policies, regulations, and bylaws
Ensuring the implementation of planning studies, reports, initiatives, particularly the Comprehensive Master Plan
Researching, applying for, and administering grants and alternative funding opportunities
Presenting information during public forums, conducting site visits, and coordinating the work of professional consultants
Serving as a liaison between relevant stakeholders and the Town, and serves as the Town’s representative with State and Federal Officials in applicable sectors
Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in planning, political science, public administration, or a related field, and 5 to 7 years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation is preferred. This is a 35-hour per week position with a salary range of $73,170-96,000 , DOQ.
The successful applicant must be able to work independently to ensure that time-sensitive projects are completed. Knowledge of State and Municipal regulations, bylaws, policies, programs, and operations, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), are required. Must be able to keep accurate records, have strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to work as part of a team. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to deal with all clients with patience and tact.
