What Will You Be Doing?
The Director, Technical Operations Strategy acts as the primary integrator for Technical Operations, ensuring programs are financially accurate, strategically aligned, and effectively executed across the fleet lifecycle. Reporting to the VP of Technical Operations, this role drives cross-functional financial governance, leads major initiatives, and ensures measurable operational and financial results. The Director also serves as the execution governor for Tech Ops, ensuring strong financial integration with FP&A and close coordination with Strategic Sourcing while overseeing technical readiness, reliability, and program delivery—without owning external commercial negotiations.
Essential Functions
Function as the central liaison to FP&A, Finance, and Accounting to integrate Tech Ops inputs into budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans; uphold data accuracy and transparency while delivering the technical and operational assumptions that inform enterprise models owned by other teams.
Ensures integrated technical governance with Finance, Treasury, and Legal so Tech Ops initiatives meet technical, control, and contractual requirements and are positioned to deliver planned financial results and enterprise strategic objectives.
Leads execution of high-impact Tech Ops programs by setting objectives, managing cost and schedule performance, removing cross-functional barriers, and ensuring vendors meet all technical, operational, and contractual requirements while coordinating with other departments to enforce commercial and financial obligations.
Establishes and facilitates recurring technical business review cadences with vendors, ensuring robust KPI frameworks, consistent performance transparency, and structured discussions that support operational reliability, cost discipline, and strategic alignment.
Works with the VP of Tech Ops to translate strategic objectives into executable initiatives, ensuring programs are properly scoped, resourced, monitored, and delivered with measurable results.
Develops, refines, and monitors key operational, financial, and performance metrics in collaboration with Tech Ops leadership to drive continuous improvement and ensure accountability across the organization.
Maximizes value recovery through effective oversight and process discipline related to warranties, guarantees, credits, and damage claims to support Legal, Treasury, and Finance.
Oversees cross-functional approval workflows to ensure major technical and operational proposals are fully vetted for strategic alignment, resource needs, risk, and financial impact before executive decision-making.
Executes additional strategic or operational responsibilities as assigned by the VP of Tech Ops to support emerging priorities, organizational needs, and enterprise-wide objectives that are consistent with the role’s boundaries and interfaces.
Qualifications
BA/BS in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
MBA preferred
Minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including at least three years in a corporate-level role.
At least five years of leadership experience.
Minimum of seven years in the airline industry.
Extensive experience negotiating contract and/or maintenance agreements.
Proven ability to identify, structure, and lead cost-saving and operational‑efficiency initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated leadership success with a history of building and developing high-performing teams.
Strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
