This position works collaboratively with project managers and other staff (often in various office locations) to meet document deadlines and improve the quality of deliverables by editing for syntax, grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, completeness, and consistency that conforms with the company’s internal style based on English language standards, The Chicago Manual of Style conventions, and PlaceWorks’ style choices.
This position can be based in any of our office locations (Berkeley, Los Angeles, Orange County, or Sacramento). Remote work may be considered for candidates who reside more than one hour from an office location. Remote employees must be located within the Pacific Time Zone (PST) to support team collaboration.
Job Requirements
You are a skilled technical editor with experience reviewing documents to ensure they are consistent, error-free, and easy to understand. Technical knowledge of planning, urban design, and environmental consulting documents is highly desirable.
You are familiar with current ADA accessibility compliance standards. Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA requirements and document remediation is highly desirable.
You are able to write and revise, as well as offer constructive feedback on grammar, style, content, and formatting.
You have superior knowledge of the English language, including syntax, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
You enjoy making a product read better and contributing to the successful completion of projects.
Multi-tasking is second nature; you can deftly handle concurrent assignments, completing tasks within budget and schedule while maintaining a high attention to detail.
You are a self-starter who can work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.
You have strong interpersonal skills and work effectively with a range of personality types and working styles, and you aren’t afraid to ask questions.
You have excellent communication and analytical skills to convey complex ideas clearly and directly.
You remain calm, cool, collected, and responsive when working under tight deadlines.
You are flexible and willing to adjust your schedule when needed to meet workload demands and deadlines.
You have extensive experience with Microsoft Word, especially using Track Changes and Styles functions, and are proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and with Adobe Acrobat.
You are familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style.
