We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the editor‑in‑chief and senior editor on the Dell list at Ballantine Bantam Dell, an imprint of Random House. The role is hybrid, with in‑office responsibilities at our New York office and remote work options for candidates within commuting distance.
Dell publishes romance of all sub‑genres including romance comedies, romantasy, dark romance, cozy fantasy, sports romance, historical and contemporary titles. Authors we publish include Sarah Adams, Adrienne Young, Demi Winters, Hannah Bonam‑Young, Hazel McBride, Stephanie Archer, Joss Richard, Mila Kane, Nadia El‑Fassi, Tessonja Odette, Elissa Sussman and Olivia Rose Darling.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support: track deadlines, schedule meetings, file expense reports, route author payments, execute mailings, and draft contract proposals.
Evaluate proposals and manuscripts, log submissions, and draft rejection letters.
Transmit manuscripts to production and liaise with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate the production process.
Prepare title information sheets, cover copy, profit & loss documents, and competitive title/trend research.
Assist with drafting flap and catalogue copy and brainstorming creative publishing approaches.
Coordinate on‑site meetings with authors and agents and provide office support such as archiving hard‑copy and electronic files.
Handle urgent tasks while maintaining a focus on the big picture and adjusting strategies as needed.
Qualifications
Strong writing skills and a broad range of interests.
Avid reader of romance and commercial fiction.
Exceptional attention to detail, prioritization, and efficient follow‑up skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask across two editors’ desks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable on email, phone, and chat.
Team player who respects others and builds relationships with departments, authors, agents, and stakeholders.
Ability to follow departmental processes, anticipate deadlines, and meet them.
Initiative, resourcefulness, and creative problem‑solving.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Social media savvy with keen interest in current events and media.
Solutions‑focused, adaptable, and able to anticipate needs once familiar with the role.
Compensation & Benefits Salary: $51,000 per year. Eligible for an annual profit award or bonus subject to company results.
