Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description The MSCR Marketing Team leads promotions and outreach strategies to educate, engage and recruit customers of all ages, helping them discover enriching and fun programs. Our goal is to increase participation and awareness in MSCR programs.

Job Description & Duties

Assist Marketing Specialist with creating and implementing marketing strategy and initiatives.

Develop and create engaging website, news stories and social media content to drive brand awareness and engagement.

Visit and capture pictures and videos of actual MSCR programs.

Plan and schedule social media posts to ensure consistent posting and optimize engagement.

Track and analyze social media metrics to measure campaign effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Stay up-to-date on the latest social media trends, platforms and best practices.

Monitor and respond to user comments and messages, engaging with followers and building relationships.

Create and distribute program flyers/marketing materials.

Assist in preparation and staff for MSCR outreach events.

May do occasional clerical duties, like organizing and storing photo archives.

Work Location:

MSCR Central and various MSCR program sites across the city.

Hours Up to 18.5 hours per week. Regular hours between 8am-7pm, M-F, with occasional weekend work.

Pay Rate $19/hour

Minimum Qualifications

Over 18 years of age, high school diploma or equivalent

Experience in marketing, communications, public relations, design, or journalism.

Reliable transportation to work site and other MSCR programming sites.

Strong communication and customer service skills, both verbally and in writing.

Experience with social media platforms.

Effective time management and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team.

Self‑directed and motivated to create and develop engaging plans.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc).

Graphic design skills in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite

Knowledge of social media analytics and reporting tools.

Other Information Minimum of twice weekly in-person shifts with some remote options available.
