The Role … We seek a driven sales professional to lead and grow our West Value Territory, which encompasses Dollar General, Family Dollar, Hy‑Vee, Costco, and BJ’s. In this role, you will oversee direct sales responsibility for these high‑impact accounts while driving revenue growth and expanding Hartz’s category presence across the territory. You will be responsible for achieving sales targets, category volume goals, and profitability objectives while developing strong partnerships with retail customers.
Beyond managing these key relationships, this role offers a unique, high‑growth opportunity to break through into a significant new account. You will have full ownership of the sales lifecycle, from identifying the opportunity to securing the partnership and scaling the business.
The successful candidate is a proactive professional who acts as a trusted advisor by using data‑driven insights into consumer behavior and market trends to uncover new business. You should be a collaborative thinker who can develop strategic account plans and implement growth strategies that deliver long‑term results.
This role is ideal for a motivated salesperson who excels at building strategic account relationships and is eager to take full command of the territory’s expansion while delivering sustainable growth in the value and club retail space. In this position, you will work remotely from your home base, located in one of the following states: AR, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, NC, NJ, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, and WA.
Your Responsibilities … Strategic Sales and Business Planning
Achieve sales targets for overall territory, customer and category within approved trade spend budget through negotiations with the buyer on sales and product placement.
Develop, monitor, and continually revise assigned accounts’ annual business plans.
Analyze point of sale and other sales data; communicate trends, insights, and risks via performance reports to Hartz internal teams, and to accounts’ category/replenishment teams. Use data to update and adjust the customer business plan.
Identify opportunities for all category and line reviews on an ongoing basis, building a selling story to secure new business as well as increase existing distribution across all categories.
Ensure that retail margins and promotions fall within the published brand strategy for all items and categories, including proper shelf position.
Forecast customer events as required.
Account and Relationship Management
Build exceptionally strong relationships with key account stakeholders through consistent communication and meetings.
Collaborate closely with internal Brand and Customer Planning teams and external broker partners to pinpoint significant opportunities within these major grocery accounts. Develop and implement strategies and programs aimed at generating profitable and incremental sales.
Understand and convey account strategies and goals to the internal Hartz team.
Attend/participate in industry and customer events, trade/trade show events, and company sales/marketing meetings.
Identify and cultivate new business opportunities, facilitating the full sales lifecycle by executing strategic outreach, conducting product presentations, and successfully transitioning qualified leads into active, high‑value accounts.
Operations and Administration
Effectively manage the administrative responsibilities, including price change forms, deductions, expense reports and selling and planning schedules.
Requirements: You’ll Need …
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Business‑related discipline with 2+ years of direct sales experience (or 5+ years direct sales experience in lieu of degree), calling on Value Channel headquarter accounts (Dollar General or Family Dollar) and/or Club accounts (Costco).
Vendor Systems:
Proficient use of Dollar General Portal and/or 10‑10 data is highly preferred.
New Business Development:
Track record of developing new business by sourcing, engaging, and converting new customers into active accounts.
Data Analysis & Presentation Skills:
Experience with category management, fact‑based selling techniques (point of sale and syndicated data analysis), and the ability to create, develop, and present this information compellingly from scratch using either Circana or Nielsen data.
Negotiation Skills:
Proven negotiation skills and demonstrated ability to finalize business and increase sales.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Business Travel:
Willingness and ability to travel (6‑8 times a year).
The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $110,000 and $115,000 and eligible for a 20% sales incentive bonus opportunity. The specific salary offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience for this position.
