
Senior Media Relations Specialist

City of Missouri City, proudly known as the “Show Me City”—a vibrant and growing community recognized for its dedication to innovation, transparency, and exceptional public service , is seeking a communications professional to join its Communications Department. This full-time position supports the development, promotion, and maintenance of the City’s brand by identifying, implementing, and continuously improving best practices in public relations, crisis communication, and social media engagement. The position reports directly to the Communications Manager and plays a key role in ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely communication with the community and media.
Responsibilities
Develops and maintains an up-to-date media contact list; serve as a primary point of contact for media and public inquiries; and provide accurate and relevant information to the community and media outlets.
Participates in meetings with media representatives, business leaders, professional development organizations, and various agencies as directed.
Prepares professional news releases, talking points, articles, and other written materials for City departments, applying best practices when preparing and distributing information to the media.
Coordinates with media outlets to organize press conferences as directed; provide departments with appropriate media contacts according to established communication protocols; and assist with preparing the City’s annual accomplishments and highlights report.
Writes, produces, and supports video segments and projects for MCTV and social media platforms; prepare, edit, and distribute information through the City website, e-blast systems, digital message boards, social media channels, and other communications tools used by the Communications Department.
Monitors social media activity and engagement, helping facilitate productive conversations between the public and City departments.
Conducts interviews with selected individuals and provide backup technical support for video recording, digital imaging, photography, and file management; assist with directing and producing segments, writing and recording voiceovers, and communicating programming schedules to the public.
Coordinates and oversees video shoot schedules; monitor workflow for scheduled events; maintains the production calendar for television shoots, meetings, special events, and other activities; and manages relationships with external vendors and partners, including developing contract terms when needed.
Assists in developing and implementing communication strategies that improve the flow of information across the organization, ensuring important updates are shared in a timely and effective manner.
Supports coverage of City events by capturing photos and/or video content.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Subject to 24 hour recall.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience.
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
