GeoNova Gaming, Orlando, FL, United States
GeoNova is looking to fill the following
unpaid , remote 3D Character Animator position to help us create
Florida Man: The Game , our upcoming, comedic, 3D platformer, action-adventure project! Work closely with us to conceptualize and animate our characters, bringing the Florida Man world to life! The position requires completing at least one task per week and attending a one-hour-long meeting per week. Everything is unpaid until we earn sufficient funds to pay wages with our upcoming crowdfunding campaign. You do not need to have 100% of the requirement below to apply. A portfolio of your work would be highly beneficial.
You will communicate and collaborate with myself (George Quijano) and the rest of the Art Department to effectively and efficiently design and create the game characters' movements and personalities. After speaking with me directly on LinkedIn, you'll be added to a Discord Recruitment Server. Once all interested applicants are in the server, we'll conduct a group interview where you'll get a chance to discuss your experience and ask us any questions. You'll also get a chance to meet official GeoNova members who went through the same process. FAQs
Q:
For how long will the position be unpaid?
A: Until we're able to generate a sufficient amount of revenue from our upcoming Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign and other planned revenue streams. Trust us, we want the money as much as you do . The faster we showcase a functional version of our game, the faster we get funded, so come help us!
Q:
Can you provide more details on the game you're working on?
A: We recently revealed the title of our game at the GeoNova Holiday Expo 2025 in December: Florida Man! It is a 3D, 3rd person, action-adventure based on Florida Man, a popular meme that shows all the wild antics and headlines that people in Florida get into. The story of our game aims to provide some connecting explanation to all those said antics, revealing the true reasons Florida Man has done things like throw an alligator through a drive-thru window and punch hurricanes. The core gameplay revolves around combat and puzzle solving. Many mechanics, puzzles, and enemy behaviors drew from influences such as South Park: The Stick of Truth, InFamous: Second Son, Shrek 2 (PS2), SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie: The Game, and a few others. Comedy was also inspired by the internet source material, South Park: The Stick of Truth (again), CalebCity, Dragon Ball Z Abridged, and more.
Q:
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "1 task per week?"
A: We're very communicative and understanding with our members' lives and workloads. We wouldn't assign someone the task of designing, creating, and implementing the 3 phases of a boss fight for a single week. Instead, we'd break it up into 3-4ish weeks, while constantly communicating throughout in order to make adjustments and ensure the assigned person can complete the task in a timely manner. I personally manage all tasks via Trello.
Q:
Can you elaborate on the vetting process?
A: The vetting process simulates normal GeoNova operations and our environment, being used to determine whether or not pre-members are able to effectively apply the skills depicted in their portfolios and works to assigned tasks over the course of around 3-5 weeks, depending on the group of pre-members we have at the time. We've had talented people in the past who simply didn't show up to a single meeting and never communicated. The vetting process is used to filter out those who aren't serious about contributing. Vetting process tasks are managed in Trello.
Q:
What's scheduling like for meetings?
A: For the vetting process (as will be the case for the group interview), we use When2Meet to choose the hour of the week that the majority of applicants are available. Currently, official Art meetings are Mondays at 3 pm est, though this is potentially open to change depending on the new members we get.
Q:
Since it's unpaid, can I take frequent weeks-long breaks?
A: We're currently looking for people who can join and help with this project consistently, as we've had past people go ghost without warning for several weeks, drastically hindering the production process. While we are regularly lenient for things like school exams, moving, sickness, and other extenuating circumstances, we cannot add people who will be frequently gone for weeks-long blocks, as this strongly slows our process. However, most of the company is able to easily balance GeoNova with work, school, life, etc., so the workload isn't too demanding.
About the Company GeoNova is an indie game studio looking to create immersive and innovative gaming projects to revolutionize the gaming industry. With inspiration striking in 2016, we first began working together as students on January 18th, 2020, when we had our first game idea. After 2 years of ups and downs, laughs, headaches, bugs, and Anthony the Turtle, we finally were able to set a clear path and business plan for the coming years.
We spent 2023 building a magnificent team and, since the beginning of 2024, have been developing our game; a 3D, 3rd person, comedy action-adventure platformer. This game is a symbol of our interest in immersive and interactive storytelling and why we make games, for we see them as the ultimate medium through which to convey the stories of a thousand worlds. Our path has us set on an eventual future of revolutionizing the gaming industry with an abundance of creative concepts that will last decades.
We have something that sets us apart from most game companies: we share the common sentiment of gamers everywhere: we're tired of the Pay-to-Play and Pay-to-Win business models that have been plaguing the gaming industry for years. However, we'd like to remind our fellow gamers of the days when we'd buy a title for the sake of playing a fun game with intriguing stories. We won't only revive this idea, but will revitalize it to levels never done before.
Over the past 2 years, our current team has had countless laughs and outrageous moments. We like exploring interesting and absurd topics with each other and even take the occasional (OK, the usual) fun tangents in conversations, but it always accumulates into the chill and good times we have. Do you wish you knew when the good times were before they're gone? We're fortunate enough to know the good times are just getting started for us. Yes, our current game premise is goofy, and yes, our members are even goofier, but the goals for our future are both serious and inevitable, and we'd very much like for you to be a part of it, whether as an employee or in our audience. Be part of the good times. Be part of the future of gaming. Press start! (slogan pending)
