DESCRIPTION Opera Praktikos (OPrak) is a disability-affirmative opera company seeking a dynamic, creative, mission-driven Part-Time Social Media Coordinator (SMC) to spearhead digital storytelling and community engagement over the next 7 months as we mount a new production. This individual will amplify Opera Praktikos’ voice and help grow connectivity with diverse groups across key platforms. Working closely with OPrak’s Artistic Director and Executive Producer, SMC will augment media & PR initiatives while building community interest and covering on-site events in June and November.

About us Opera Praktikos (OPrak) is New York City’s first disability-affirmative opera company. We present a genre of opera that’s interabled and champions disability-artistry as a creative force in the field. Through deliberate reinterpretations of classical operas and the commissioning of new works, we want our arts-workers and audiences to authentically find themselves in the stories we portray on stage. We do this by honoring disability culture, fostering access to community and making opera happen in the very heart of New York City.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and implement a cohesive social media strategy aligned with OPrak’s mission and production calendar.

Maintain and update a content calendar on a weekly/monthly basis.

Monitor analytics and adapt tactics to improve engagement and reach.

Content Creation & Publishing

Write, design, and schedule engaging posts across Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky and LinkedIn.

Create quality original content (text, images, short videos) highlighting productions, artists, access practices, and community values.

Edit and adapt content provided by artists, collaborators, and the production team, keeping OPrak in alignment with deliverables and proper crediting to our supporters.

Authentic Community Engagement

Respond to messages, tags, and comments in a timely and inclusive manner.

Foster a welcoming and affirming online space reflecting OPrak’s values.

Build connections with allied organizations, artists, and audiences through thoughtful engagement.

Campaigns & Promotions

Support online promotion of performances, fundraising efforts, auditions, job postings, and public programs.

Collaborate on marketing and development initiatives to ensure consistent messaging and visual identity.

Light website updating during quiet periods.

Accessibility

Ensure all posts fulfill on digital accessibility standards, including alt text, captions, and image descriptions.

Incorporate access guidance from disabled artists and consultants into content development and publishing.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing social media for arts, cultural, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.

Excellent writing, visual storytelling, and content design skills

Proficiency using Meta, Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite, Later, or Buffer.

Innate understanding of accessibility best practices for digital communication.

Alignment with the values of disability justice and creative inclusion.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with artists and administrators.

Familiarity with American Sign Language, opera, and performing arts is a plus.

Compensation & Hours

Rate: $25–$28/hour (based on experience) for a total of 150 flex hours

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week - to start - increasing in the autumn.

Contract Term: May through November
