Head of Technical Sales, Synthetic Chemistries (Semiconductor, Battery, Energy Transition)
is a dynamic and results-driven role responsible for business development and revenue growth through deep technical and commercial engagement, strategic partnership development, comprehensive market analysis, and meticulous account management and comprehensive market analysis. This hybrid role on the Commercial team requires proven experience in driving new business initiatives, expertly managing key client relationships, and ensuring the successful execution of commercial agreements. The Electronics & Energy Transition Lead will work closely with both internal teams and customers within the electronics and energy transition industries to establish and cultivate long‑term relationships, deliver exceptional value through novel chemistries solutions, and significantly drive business growth for Ascensus Specialties. 25% to 50% travel as needed supporting customer meetings, site coordination, conferences, etc.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Strategic Partnership Development:
- Identify, prioritize, and pursue strategic collaboration opportunities within the electronics and energy transition industries, especially semiconductor, battery, and other alternative energy markets.
- Leverage company resources and expertise to create mutually beneficial partnerships that drive innovation and meet the evolving needs of key clients.
- Collaborate with VPHead of, Electronics & Energy Transition, and Product Marketing to maximize new partnership opportunities and expand market presence while partnering with all internal functions, especially R&D and Operations, to bring new products to market and meet demand ramps.
- Market Analysis and Opportunity Assessment:
- Evaluate potential clients’ needs, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes to align new business strategies with company objectives.
- Work closely with internal teams such as marketing and product management to ensure alignment of customer needs, market trends, and product offerings.
- Regularly assess market conditions and emerging trends to provide valuable insights to inform decision-making and identify growth opportunities.
- Conduct detailed market analysis to identify new business opportunities, trends, and potential partnership candidates in the electronics and energy transition sectors.
- Commercial Negotiation and Execution:
- Lead negotiations and execution of commercial agreements, including sales contracts, supply agreements, strategic partnerships, and co-development projects, ensuring alignment with business goals, pricing models, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as legal and finance, to structure contracts that are financially sound and operationally feasible.
- Manage all aspects of the commercial execution, ensuring that agreements are met, performance metrics are achieved, and business expectations are fulfilled.
- Account Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with select existing strategic accounts in the electronics and energy transition industries, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Monitor account activity to ensure timely order fulfillment, accurate forecasting, and efficient inventory management to meet budgetary and operational goals.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure the smooth flow of information and efficient handling of customer orders, including follow-ups and troubleshooting, when necessary, as well as addressing customer concerns and issues promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction and retention over the long term.
- Sales Performance and Reporting:
- Provide regular reports on account status, sales performance, and forecasts to management, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and any need for strategic adjustments.
- Track sales performance metrics to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with management to set realistic goals, budgets, and account strategies for continuous growth.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Engineering, or related physical sciences degree (advanced degree preferred), or comparable years of industry experience. PhD in Synthetic Chemistry a strong positive.
- 10+ years of experience in business development, account management, or a hybrid of both in the semiconductor, energy transition, or related industries.
- Proven ability to negotiate and execute strategic commercial agreements and partnerships.
- Strong customer relationship management skills with experience in maintaining long-term customer satisfaction.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex accounts, projects, and cross-functional collaboration.

Physical Requirements
- Work Schedule: This role typically follows the administrative work schedule, Monday – Friday, 0700 – 1600. Actual work hours will be established and managed by the department manager.
- This position primarily involves sedentary work, with frequent sitting and occasional standing and walking throughout the workday.
- Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment is required.
- The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential.
- Occasionally, the role may require bending, reaching, or light lifting (up to 10-15 pounds) for tasks such as retrieving files or moving office supplies.
- Good vision, including close vision, is necessary for computer work and reading documents.
- Ability to navigate domestic and international travel including car, plane, train, hotel, rental car, hotel arrangements.
