Job Details
As the MEP Director, you will develop MEP strategies and plans in alignment with company objectives, while actively championing a Zero Incident Safety Culture. This role is responsible for overseeing and directing all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) aspects of construction projects – ensuring all MEP systems are designed, installed, and commissioned according to contractual specifications, budgets, schedules, and required regulations. In this key leadership role, you will deliver high‑quality outcomes by applying your technical expertise collaboratively with project teams, while acting as the primary liaison for trade partners, project teams, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Champion the Zero Incident Safety Culture through pre‑planning and proactive measures.
- Oversee and enforce safety standards on MEP activities through audits, training, and site visits.
- Ensure all MEP systems adhere to local, state, and national safety codes (NFPA, OSHA, ASHRAE).
Design and Planning
- Collaborate with the design team to integrate MEP systems with architectural and structural elements.
- Review and provide guidance on MEP designs, plans, and specifications.
- Provide MEP expertise in project pursuits, client interviews, and preconstruction efforts.
- Collaborate with preconstruction on cost analysis and estimate coordination.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on all MEP topics, issues, and best practices.
Project Leadership and Oversight
- Lead MEP execution on construction projects from design through completion.
- Provide direction to MEP professionals, designers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress; address delays, quality issues, and compliance concerns.
- Lead negotiations on MEP pricing and change orders.
Budget and Cost Management
- Prepare and manage MEP project budgets, controlling costs from estimating through closeout.
- Oversee procurement of materials and MEP subcontractors.
- Track and update pricing data for key market sectors; proactively identify new construction methods that add value at reduced cost.
Team Leadership
- Build and grow MEP organizational capabilities; hire, train, and develop staff.
- Lead and mentor MEP team members; manage performance and provide coaching.
- Establish and grow relationships with capable MEP subcontractors and designers.
- Build presence and relationships across the AEC industry, positioning the company for future work opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering; Construction Management or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of commercial mechanical/electrical construction, design, or project management with an MEP focus.
- Proven track record leading MEP initiatives on large, complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, regulations, and codes.
- Experience in commercial (healthcare, education, and science & technology sectors preferred).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel and visit job sites regularly.
- Beneficial certifications: LEED, PE License, CEM, PMP, OSHA‑30.
