Description

The Director of Risk Management Services will plan, coordinate and manage the risk management programs and services offered by our client which include workers’ compensation self-insurance fund and the property and liability programs.

Duties include:

• Directs and administers the risk management programs for the pooled insurance funds.
• Develops strategies, controls and measures to monitor and mitigate risk exposures.
• Heads the development and implementation of risk management programs along with related policies and procedures.
• Manages actuarial services, underwriting, financial modeling and other considerations to predict risk exposure to the fund’s assets.
• Proposes service procedures and performance standards for third party administrators or vendors; monitors performance to ensure that contract obligations are fulfilled and that policies and procedures are followed.
• Prepares proposals of risk management programs for prospective local government members; conducts presentations for cities’ officials and staff.
• Writes general correspondence, policy papers, memoranda and other documents; prepares reports, filings and forms for submittal to appropriate regulatory agencies.
• Analyzes and develops recommendations for changes in risk management programs, rates, underwriting and claims procedures.
• Recommends membership admissions and terminations, contribution amounts, and coverage limitations.
• Recommends claim settlement conditions to Deputy Executive Director.
• Plans and assists in implementing loss control activities for the risk management programs.
• Manages contribution collections for the company’s risk management programs.
• Consults with third party administrators, local and state government officials, actuaries, consultants, contractors, state municipal leagues and others in performing risk management administration duties.
• Manages, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processes employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Analyzes and interprets plan provisions, laws and regulations, reports, policies and procedures; prepares written summaries of findings and recommendations for dissemination to department staff.
• References insurance manuals, state and federal laws and regulations, policies and procedures, claims reports, actuarial reports, accounting records, loss control reports, and member correspondence in performing assigned administrative duties.
• Develops and makes presentations to the Board of Trustees and other committees.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business or public administration, or related field required
• Five to seven years of experience in public sector risk management or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
