The Director of Finance provides strategic and operational leadership for the Finance function of the hotel, ensuring best-in-class financial governance, reporting accuracy, compliance, and performance optimization. This role maintains complete oversight of budgeting, planning, forecasting, controls, team leadership, and partnership with property leadership to drive results and deliver on ownership and brand expectations. The Director of Finance is responsible for analyzing and reporting the total financial performance of the hotel and collaborating across all departments to achieve financial goals, elevate operational discipline, and support long-term business sustainability.

General Manager and dotted line report to Vice President of Finance

Key Relationships
Internal: General Manager, Executive Committee, Owners
External: Hotel guests/visitors, vendors/suppliers, service providers, auditors, tax authorities, banking partners

Responsibilities

  • Financial Strategy & Performance Leadership
    • Develop, document, and drive the hotel’s Finance strategy to optimize performance, controls, and profitability.
    • Establish and monitor key financial metrics (e.g., EBITDA) aligned with ownership and brand standards.
    • Partner with Hotel leadership to support operational decision-making through financial insight and disciplined reporting.
    • Prepare business forecasts and financial analysis, escalating risks as appropriate.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
    • Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure targets are achievable and understood.
    • Oversee execution of the financial plan, variance management, and follow-through with department leaders.
    • Collaborate with departments to ensure budget alignment and financial literacy across teams.
  • Accounting, Controls & Audit Readiness
    • Develop and maintain internal controls and audit processes to ensure compliance and asset protection.
    • Oversee accounting operations for accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
    • Maintain readiness for internal and external audits and address findings promptly.
  • Reporting & Written Communication Excellence
    • Produce clear, executive-level written deliverables (monthly financials, commentary, and performance updates).
    • Provide proactive, polished Finance communications aligned with leadership expectations.
    • Establish cross-functional communication protocols for Finance processes.
  • Compliance, State & Local Tax Reporting
    • Oversee timely and accurate state and local tax reporting, filings, and reconciliations.
    • Maintain awareness of compliance requirements impacting Finance operations.
    • Coordinate with external accountants and regulators to ensure proper reporting and documentation.
  • Contracts, Licenses & Agreement Management
    • Maintain an organized system for tracking contracts, licenses, and agreements, including renewals and obligations.
    • Coordinate with leadership and vendors to ensure timely renewals and compliance.
  • Leadership & Talent Development
    • Hire, train, and manage Finance staff while building accountability and service excellence.
    • Direct team execution of strategy to align with standards, procedures, and budget expectations.
    • Support development of a strong Finance bench through coaching and performance management.
  • Stakeholder Relations
    • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, partners, and external stakeholders.
    • Represent Finance at Executive Committee and leadership meetings with authority and clarity.
  • General Standards
    • Comply with Work Rules, Safety Standards, and Standards of Conduct.
    • Collaborate professionally with colleagues and supervisors.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Essential
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English (speaking, reading, writing) with guests, co-workers, and management.
    • Excellent written communication, including executive-level reporting and performance updates.
    • Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Hospitality Management with a minor in Accounting.
    • Familiarity with financial systems (PMS, POS, SUN System, Birchstreet, payroll systems).
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
    • Proven ability to lead cross-functional collaboration through financial insight and partnership.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 5–10 years in a senior hotel finance role, preferably in luxury hospitality.
