SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Program Director 1, MSCS will be responsible for direct leadership and oversight of site‑based staff and School Age programs that ensure participants’ safety at all times and foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth.

Program Director 1 - MSCS, Cordova, TN. Full‑time.
Purpose of the Position
This role leads staff in our School Age programs, maintains positive relationships with YMCA staff, school staff, and participants, and supports cross‑area leadership functions such as training, interviewing and personnel recruitment. The position ensures the successful operation of an assigned portfolio of multiple before and after school and camp sites, overseeing program quality, promotion, personnel supervision & recruitment, and community relations.
Essential Functions
- Lead assigned site(s) and take responsibility for the successful operation of school age before/after and camping programs, including observing, coaching, and supervising program site directors and group leaders.
- Coach and supervise Site Directors and Group Leaders in areas including, but not limited to:
- planning and implementation of the program
- providing a high‑quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum
- maintaining stimulating and orderly program spaces
- operating the programs in conformity to state/county licensing and agency regulations
- maintaining program enrollment at appropriate levels
- conducting program tours and periodic open‑house/registration events
- maintaining accurate and complete records
- planning (in partnership with direct supervisor) and conducting parent‑involvement events (e.g., Parent Group, picnics, holidays, and parent/child activities)
- Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agencies, school administration, community partners, and parent groups.
- Supervises site directors and group leaders (all site-level staff).
- In partnership with Supervisor & Human Resources, address all performance/behavior issues.
- Review timecards for accuracy; assist with timecard corrections.
- Schedule site staff.
- Facilitate community engagement and partnerships.
- Conduct site audits/visits daily to ensure quality across functions such as partnerships, program implementation, and compliance with DHS.
- Help to drive enrollment.
- Support assignments and special projects assigned by supervisors.
- Respond to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner, seeking guidance from supervisors and peer Childcare Directors as needed.
- Evaluate sites in areas including, but not limited to, proper implementation of curriculum and lesson planning, program quality control, and recruitment and retention of program participants.
- Assure compliance with state and local regulations.
- Ensure that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Model superior communication and leadership to the team.
- Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign at assigned school sites, and attend staff meetings and special events to provide a collaborative and cohesive approach to the YMCA’s vision and mission.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by and agreed to with the Program Director – Quality Operations, Sr. Program Director – Quality Operations, or Executive Director/Vice President to meet the changing needs of the program.

- Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within program sites.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Professional image, conflict resolution skills, sound judgment and initiative.
- Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software programs; ability to use most office equipment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Three or more years of YMCA program and/or childcare experience preferred; comparable experience in other organizations may be considered.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) certificate for completing thirty hours of orientation training, or the equivalent recognized by the Department and four years of experience in child development or related experience; OR
- Two years of college (30 hours of which shall be in business or management, child or youth development, early childhood education or related field) and two years of experience in a group setting; OR
- Four‑year degree and one year of full‑time (paid or unpaid) experience in a group setting.
Work Schedule
The full‑time work schedule is generally Monday through Friday; evenings and weekends may be required. Hours vary based on before and after school and camp schedules. The position may be called into work in inclement weather or unusual circumstances deemed necessary by association leadership.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping.
- Some exposure to outdoor elements.
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms.
- Exposure to some chemical elements.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Salary Description
$45,000 – $50,000
