
Regional Medical Affairs Director (Rare Disease): REMOTE, USA

Compensation $150,000 - $185,000 per year. Eligible for Short-Term Incentive Plan target at 10% of annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.
The Regional Medical Affairs Director role is responsible for leading a team charged with ongoing client education and engagement regarding our clinical offerings, strategic initiatives, and the technology used at Ambry. The Regional Medical Affairs Director functions with autonomy and independence, partnering with the ASD(s) and AVP(s) to strategically manage the region and support the sales and GSL teams in new and existing client interactions. The Regional Medical Affairs Director will ensure the execution of all field-based medical affairs initiatives, oversee special projects, and interact independently with internal stakeholders. The Regional Medical Affairs Director is also responsible for hiring, training, and managing direct reports on their team.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the development and delivery of meaningful presentations regarding the clinical utility of genetic testing and Ambry’s differentiators to clients and prospective clients. Play significant role in planning and execution of GSL and sales training.
- Help lead and direct GSL team initiatives, IDPs and goals, interest in research, KOL identification, and other professional development needs.
- Represent the GSL team at interdepartmental meetings and strategic initiatives as assigned, communicating effectively upcoming changes/programs/tests with the team and offering training as needed. Pinpoint gaps in information, then identify or create useful resources, to further support the team.
- Master the travel expectations of the job and recognize where GSL support is needed throughout the territory, staff regional and national tradeshows, help cross-cover in vacant territories, as scheduling conflicts arise, and for significant client opportunities. Co-travel with team members twice annually to observe their client and AE interactions, providing written and oral feedback regarding performance, successes, and areas of improvement.
- Engage clients in all interactions, presenting Ambry’s solutions confidently and accurately. Working and communicating closely with GSLs, ASDs, and AVPs in your region to implement improvements and become more effective in the field.
Education And Knowledge
- Master’s degree or higher in genetic counseling, human genetics, or other healthcare field.
- MS in Genetic Counseling preferred; board certification a plus.
- Must be able to clearly explain the current state of clinical genetic testing to a variety of audiences, the advantages and limitations of genetic testing, and a desire to educate community providers about the utility of clinical genetics.
- Must have strong organizational skills; work very well independently, excel in collaboration and communication with clients and internal team members, manage a team, and be proficient in public speaking.
- A desire to lead a team of professionals and provide job coaching, seeking out individual ways to help team members succeed and grow, providing concrete and meaningful feedback.
Technical Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of various lab techniques (e.g., NSG, Sanger sequencing, etc.) and how to differentiate Ambry’s offerings and technologies from competitors.
Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience at Ambry or >5 years in a genetic testing laboratory or clinic site.
- Historical record of territory growth or extensive experience in expansion efforts.
- Demonstrated history of managing client relationships, identifying potential KOLs, and coaching peers.
Preferred
- Rare Disease experience highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
