
Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management

An independently owned, New York-based Real Estate Investment Management firm with over $9 billion in AUM is seeking a Senior Vice President to join the portfolio management team. In this role, you will serve as a co-portfolio manager, responsible for collaborating on the oversight of the firm's open-ended, diversified living sector fund (encompassing multifamily, active adult, student housing and build to rent single family). This is a core plus mandate that may invest throughout the risk spectrum in order to generate its target returns. The firm is vertically-integrated and you will be involved in all operational aspects of the fund throughout the lifecycle of each investment and will act as a pivot person between accounting, compliance, asset management, valuations, client relations and investor reporting.
Responsibilities
- Strategic planning : Help to shape and drive long-term portfolio composition and strategy, translating high-level goals into executable plans
- Investment Oversight : Support the management of complex real estate portfolios, review and approve acquisitions, dispositions and financing activity to ensure they align with portfolio risk/return goals
- Asset Performance : Continually monitor investment composition, asset and fund level performance and cash flows to ensure strategic goals and financial targets are met
- Investor Relations : Act as a point of contact for client development, onboarding and ongoing reporting
- Stakeholder Leadership : Build and maintain relationships with potential joint venture partners and internal stakeholders
- Travel : Travel will be required with respect to potential acquisitions and dispositions, fundraising and existing and prospective client reporting and development, industry conferences and events whilst also duties to regularly visit the existing portfolio
- Mentorship : Manage, Mentor and train junior members of the team
Candidate
- 12+ years of relevant experience at a commercial real estate investment firm with a focus on portfolio and asset management
- Deep experience at the asset level; understanding of living sector property types including student housing, active adult housing and/or single family rental properties
- Bachelors degree in a real estate, finance, accounting, economics or related field
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment while also operating independently when required
- Superior command of real estate private equity investment concepts, including underwriting, capital structuring, and portfolio construction
- Strong commercial judgment and disciplined decision-making under pressure
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills across investors, operating partners, and internal teams
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
- Strong work ethic with a hands-on, ownership-driven mentality
- Excellent analytical and financial modeling capabilities
