Director of Mission Software

Overview

Marcurius is building next-generation autonomous systems designed to operate across complex and contested environments.

The Director of Mission Software will lead the development of the software platforms that power these systems. This includes autonomy frameworks, mission software, sensor integration, and operator interfaces that enable unmanned platforms to perceive, decide, and act.

This role sits at the center of Marcurius’ technical capability and works closely with the Chief Engineer, AI Development Director, and R&D Director to translate advanced technology into operational Defense systems.

The successful candidate will build and lead the software engineering capability responsible for delivering robust, scalable, and secure software platforms that support real-world deployments.

This role combines technical leadership, architecture ownership, and team building in a fast-moving Defense technology environment.

Security Clearance

This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

Define the software architecture supporting Marcurius autonomous platforms, including:

• Autonomy frameworks
• Mission systems
• Control software
• Operator interfaces
• Distributed software services

Ensure systems are scalable, modular, and deployable across multiple platforms.

System Integration

Work closely with the Chief Engineer and technical teams to integrate software with:

• Embedded systems
• Sensors and perception systems
• Communications systems
• Mechanical and electrical subsystems

Ensure reliable system performance in operational environments.

Engineering Leadership

Build and lead the software engineering team responsible for delivering Marcurius’ core software capability.

Establish strong engineering practices including:

• Development standards
• Testing and validation
• CI/CD and deployment pipelines

Operational Deployment

Ensure software systems transition successfully from development to operational capability.

Support:

• Field trials
• Platform integration
• Operational feedback loops

Required Experience

We are looking for a software leader who combines strong systems thinking with experience delivering complex technical platforms.

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering or related technical fields
• Experience leading engineering teams delivering complex technical systems
• Demonstrated experience working in robotics, autonomous systems, Defense technology, aerospace, or similar mission-critical engineering environments
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, embedded systems, or real-time software architectures
• Sensor integration and data processing experience
• Command-and-control or mission software systems understanding
• Experience with autonomy frameworks and mission software platforms
