Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Lead Park Ambassador performs a variety of community service functions through general observations, monitoring, and enforcement of the District policies and ordinances on Park District properties. Primarily monitors District parks and properties with an emphasis on lakefront properties and beaches during the summer months. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Monitors Park District properties, publicly accessible beach areas of Lake Michigan, and other identified PDHP areas Acts as deterrent to unlawful behavior. While on duty will be the liaison between the police dispatch and Park District related to public issues at Park District properties, will be responsible for the phone line to answer calls. Observes and reports unlawful behavior and safety hazards to site supervisor(s). Helps persons in need of assistance; contacts local law enforcement for assistance, as needed. Conducts security monitoring at Park District special events; assists with traffic direction and crowd control at special events, as required. Enforces District policies and ordinances through tactful verbal approach. Must use independent discretion and judgement in the absence of a supervisor after hours. Must be able to give direction to Security team when needed. Must have a valid license and be able to operate a Park District vehicle Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous customer service and/or special event crowd management experience is preferred. Additional Qualifications:
- Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills. - Must be able to multi-task and maintain constant mental alertness and attention to detail. - Must maintain strict confidentiality with regard to information obtained. - Must maintain effective working relationships and be able to follow written and oral instructions. - Must be able to acquire the knowledge of geographic areas of the City of Highland Park and Park District properties. - Must be able to handle the pressure of working with high volume general public. Classification:
Seasonal, non-exempt Wage Range:
$20.50-$26.50 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits:

The Park Ambassador works in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, winter precipitation, wind, rain, or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Works in a climate of an average of 86 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity inside and exposed to the weather conditions, which can include cold, rain and extreme heat outside.
