
HCS Director of Care Redesign

The HCS Director of Care Redesign leads programs, projects, and teams in reducing unwarranted variation in quality, cost, outcomes, and experience across the healthcare system. The Director is responsible for leading a team of Care Redesign Leaders to engage multidisciplinary clinical stakeholders from across the system to develop system‑wide care pathways including EHR integration and reporting. Reporting to the Executive Director of Hospital Quality and Care Redesign, the Director functions as part of the Care Redesign leadership team and is responsible for promoting a culture consistent with the health care system’s mission, core values, and standards of conduct.
Responsibilities
Develop, plan, organize, and direct the entire portfolio of programs and projects within Care Redesign strategic roadmap. Direct the planning, development, socialization, and implementation of clinical care pathways. Report impact regularly to hospital‑specific and system‑wide audiences.
Work closely with leadership from Unified Quality, owned and managed hospitals, Service Line leaders, Physician leaders, UNC Health Alliance on Care Redesign priorities and solutions across the Health Care System.
Serve as a spokesperson for Care Redesign and communicate results to key system stakeholders including the Quality Improvement Oversight Committee, UNC Health Physicians Leadership, Service Line leaders, and individual hospital leadership teams.
Support the development and implementation of the fiscal and capital plans and adjust accordingly to support the financial success of the department.
Develop and foster effective collaboration between departments and other affiliated services to ensure integrated approach to providing best‑in‑class services. Function as an effective senior liaison and intermediary between care delivery teams.
Work collaboratively with the Care Redesign team and other departments across the continuum of healthcare services to develop effective data analytics, care management processes, cost avoidance measures and mutually beneficial relationships that enhance evidence‑based health care delivery and quality outcomes.
Actively participate in UNC HCS committees related to high quality/low‑cost health care, internal and external provider relationships, managed care agreements, supply chain processes, and patient outreach.
Other Information Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Facilitation, Lean Six Sigma, Quality, or Project Management strongly preferred.
No licensure or certification requirements.
Prior clinical experience (Nursing, PT/OT/SLP, etc) preferred.
Healthcare Quality certification (Lean Six Sigma, CPHQ, IHI, etc) or Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP) preferred.
Professional Experience Requirements
Seven (7) years of related experience, with at least five (5) years of management experience in quality, project management, and data analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
Demonstrates high degree of management skill, including, but not limited to leadership, collaboration skills, negotiation skills, motivational skills, and conflict resolution aptitude.
Experience defining organizational strategies including the development of highly professional PowerPoint presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous settings, to independently structure analysis and to drive to recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to initiate projects, define project plans, and lead project teams.
Demonstrated strength in people skills (leadership, collaboration, negotiation, and influence).
