Residential Construction Foreman
Ideal Builders, San Francisco, CA, United States
About the Role
We are a San Francisco-based general contracting company specializing in high-end residential construction — including custom home builds, full gut renovations, ADUs, and architecturally significant remodels. Our clients expect exceptional craftsmanship and seamless communication on every job.
We are looking for an experienced Field Foreman to manage day‑to‑day field operations across 2–4 active job sites simultaneously. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you will be the face of our company on‑site, responsible for quality, schedule, crew performance, and client confidence. You own the results.
What You\'ll Do
Oversee daily field operations across 2–4 active residential job sites in San Francisco
Lead and direct crews of 2–8 workers per site, including laborers and specialty subcontractors
Read and interpret architectural plans, structural drawings, and finish specifications to guide work accurately
Break down complex scopes into clear, step‑by‑step direction for workers of varying skill levels — you make sure everyone knows exactly what to do and why
Maintain daily accountability for quality, schedule, and safety across all active jobs
Communicate proactively with the owner/PM on job status, issues, and material needs
Coordinate material deliveries, tool logistics, and subcontractor sequencing across sites
Conduct daily site walks and punch list reviews; ensure work meets our quality standard before sign‑off
Document daily progress, site conditions, and crew hours
Maintain a professional, respectful presence with clients and neighbors — you represent the company
What We\'re Looking For Required
5+ years of experience in residential construction, with at least 2 years in a Foreman or Lead Carpenter role
Proven ability to manage crews across multiple concurrent job sites
Strong ability to read and interpret full construction plan sets — architectural, structural, and finish details
Demonstrated skill at communicating work clearly to laborers and helpers with varied experience levels
Track record of accountability: you own the schedule, the quality, and the result
Reliable transportation to travel between San Francisco job sites
Valid CA driver\'s license
Strongly Preferred
Experience on high‑end residential projects — historic renovations, custom homes, or luxury remodels where finish quality is paramount
Bilingual English/Spanish — a major plus given mixed crews
Familiarity with San Francisco\'s building department and permit inspection process
What We Offer
Competitive hourly pay: $38–$55/hr depending on experience
Year‑round, stable work — we maintain an active pipeline of projects
Direct access to ownership — no bureaucracy, decisions get made fast
Projects you\'ll be proud of: architecturally interesting, high‑quality work
Opportunity to grow into a senior leadership role as the company scales
How to Apply Send us a brief message describing your experience and what makes you a strong fit for this role. Include:
A summary of your construction background (types of projects, crew sizes, # of sites managed)
Your experience reading plans and managing multi‑site schedules
References from past employers or GCs you\'ve worked with
