
Technical Designer - Handbags

ESC has an exciting opportunity for a
Handbag Technical Designer
to develop and execute technical designs for our premier retail client’s Seasonal handbag collection. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sketching multiple bag views and creating detailed tech packs for handbags made from multiple materials. This role requires a deep understanding of handbag construction, strong technical skills, and proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
The role will start in late April and run through late August, working onsite in New York, Monday through Thursday every week.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct trend and competitive research to support the development of handbag concepts, materials, color palettes, and seasonal assortments aligned with private label brand strategies.
Create hand sketches and detailed color CADs to communicate design intent, construction details, and product features to internal teams and overseas vendors.
Develop and maintain comprehensive technical specifications (tech packs) including measurements, materials, hardware, construction methods, and packaging details to ensure accurate sample development.
Apply deep knowledge of handbag construction, materials, and hardware components to ensure designs are technically feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with Kohl’s quality standards.
Build and maintain brand rooms, design boards, and seasonal presentation decks to support product reviews, line presentations, and cross-functional alignment.
Partner with design, product development, sourcing, and merchandising teams to refine styles, review samples, and ensure product execution meets design intent and brand standards.
Update CADs, tech packs, and product documentation as needed to incorporate design changes, corrections, and production-ready details throughout the development cycle.
Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, organized, and ready for vendor communication and production handoff.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Accessories Design, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Technical Designer in handbags.
Strong understanding of handbag construction, materials, and hardware.
Ability to translate creative designs into detailed technical specifications.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple projects.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working multiple materials for handbag construction.
Knowledge of production and manufacturing processes for handbags.
