Job Details A distinguished multi-service law firm headquartered in downtown San Jose is seeking a Litigation Associate with substantial experience in real estate litigation. The position focuses primarily on real estate disputes and litigation, while also supporting the firm’s other litigation practices. Experience with business litigation is a plus.

Responsibilities include managing an active caseload (typically 8–15 matters), taking primary responsibility for case strategy and client communication, leading discovery and motion practice, and participating in or leading trial preparation and hearings. The role also involves supervising junior attorneys and paralegals, coordinating with subject‑matter experts, and meeting billing and productivity expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage an active caseload from client intake through resolution, ensuring timely adherence to court deadlines and internal milestones.

Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case strategies and prepare clear, practical legal memoranda and assessments.

Draft and file pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions (including demurrers, motions to compel, anti‑SLAPP, and summary judgment), oppositions, and briefs on schedule.

Lead discovery planning and execution: develop discovery plans, serve and respond to written discovery, oversee e‑discovery platforms and vendors, prepare witness lists, and take and defend depositions.

Prepare for and actively participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, hearings, and trials; serve as trial counsel where appropriate.

Serve as the primary client contact on assigned matters: provide timely updates, develop and monitor case budgets, and prepare periodic billing and status reports.

Supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals: delegate tasks, review work product, provide constructive feedback, and ensure quality control.

Collaborate with other practice groups and subject‑matter experts to address cross‑disciplinary issues and deliver integrated solutions.

Contribute to business development and professional growth through firm training, pitch materials, client alerts, and client relationship cultivation.

Meet firm billing and productivity expectations and maintain accurate time and task records in accordance with firm policies.

Requirements

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Active membership in the State Bar of California.

6+ years of litigation experience with a demonstrated interest in real estate litigation.

Strong working knowledge of the California Code of Civil Procedure, Evidence Code, and relevant areas of the Civil Code and Business & Professions Code.

Ability to manage cases from inception to resolution with general supervision.

Ability to independently identify issues and recommend strategy in litigation.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Work Experience

Substantial experience in real estate litigation.

Experience at AmLaw 200 and/or respectable midsize or regional firm.

Experience with business litigation.

Education

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills

Strong working knowledge of California civil procedure and evidence codes.

Ability to manage cases from inception to resolution.

Ability to independently identify issues and recommend a strategy.
