Director of Ambulatory Operations
Insight Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience, Coldwater, MI, United States
Lead the Transformation of Rural Outpatient Care
At Insight Hospital & Medical Center Coldwater, we are redesigning how outpatient care is delivered—improving access, eliminating inefficiencies, and creating a truly patient-centered experience. We are seeking a proven operator who has successfully transformed outpatient clinics—not just managed them. If you've walked into a struggling clinic and turned it into a high-performing, patient-focused operation… this role is for you.
What You’ll Do You will own operational performance across our outpatient clinics and lead measurable transformation in:
Clinic Performance & Throughput
Redesign workflows to improve access, reduce wait times, and increase provider productivity
Optimize scheduling templates, staffing models, and visit flow
Drive measurable improvements in volume, cycle time, and patient access
Develop and execute strategies to reduce no-show and cancellation rates
Operational Transformation
Identify inefficiencies and implement sustainable process improvements
Standardize best practices across clinics while allowing for specialty-specific needs
Lead change management with physicians and staff – this is where most people fail; we need someone who won’t
Evaluate clinic viability and make recommendations on service line consolidation or expansion
Staffing & Workforce Optimization
Assess and optimize clinic staffing models using industry benchmarks
Ensure appropriate staffing ratios across clinical and administrative roles
Identify staffing gaps and imbalances and develop plans to address them
Business Analytics & Performance Intelligence
Own clinic-level performance reporting across productivity, efficiency, staffing, and financial metrics
Benchmark clinic operations against national standards (MGMA or equivalent)
Use data to identify underperforming areas and build targeted improvement plans
Present operational insights and recommendations to executive leadership
Own clinic-level financial performance including volume, expense, revenue, and contribution margin
Partner with revenue cycle on billing performance, charge capture, and denial management
Support compliance and margin optimization for pharmacy and ancillary service lines
Monitor provider compensation and contract compliance
Partner with providers to improve clinic efficiency without compromising care quality
Build strong relationships and credibility with physicians (employed and independent)
Develop clinic managers and frontline teams through coaching, accountability, and performance management
Growth & Expansion
Lead startup and ramp-up of new clinic locations and service lines
Support recruitment and onboarding of providers with a focus on operational success from day one
What Success Looks Like (First 12–18 Months)
Measurable improvement in patient access and clinic throughput
Increased provider productivity (wRVUs/visits per session)
Improved patient satisfaction and experience metrics
Standardized workflows across clinics with reduced variation
Clinic staffing aligned to industry benchmarks
Strong physician engagement driven by partnership—not passive compliance
Who You Are You’re not a “policy enforcer.” You’re an operator.
Required
5+ years leading outpatient clinic operations
Demonstrated success improving clinic performance (throughput, access, financials, or patient experience)
Experience working directly with physicians to drive operational change
Strong understanding of ambulatory workflows, scheduling, staffing, and revenue cycle
Experience with healthcare benchmarking data (MGMA, AMGA, or equivalent)
Comfort with operational and financial data analysis
Experience managing clinic-level P&L or financial performance
Preferred
Experience in multi‑site, multi‑specialty clinic management
Track record of clinic turnaround or transformation work
Lean / Six Sigma / process improvement experience (formal or practical)
Experience with EMR‑based reporting and workflow optimization
Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
What Sets You Apart
You walk into chaos and see a system
You’re comfortable challenging “how we’ve always done it”
You use data – but don’t hide behind it
You can influence physicians without alienating them
Why This Role Matters This isn’t a maintenance role.
This is a chance to reshape outpatient care in a rural market, expand access, and directly impact how patients experience care in our community.
If you want a role where you can actually fix things—not just talk about them—this is it.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred but not required if experience is strong)
Demonstrated operational leadership in healthcare required
About Insight Insight is committed to delivering high‑quality, accessible care to the communities we serve. We are investing in our outpatient network and building a model that works—for patients, providers, and staff.
