Position Summary The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to help lead daily maintenance operations and ensure the golf course is maintained to the highest standards. The position provides hands‑on leadership in all aspects of turf management while helping supervise and develop the maintenance team.

This role offers significant exposure to championship‑level course conditioning, irrigation management, and team leadership, providing an excellent pathway for career advancement in golf course management.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and execution of daily golf course maintenance operations

Supervise and train maintenance staff while promoting a positive and professional work environment

Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and water management

Monitor turf health, pest and disease pressures, and assist with agronomic programs

Apply fertilizers and plant protectants in accordance with agronomic plans and regulatory requirements

Assist with course setup and daily conditioning standards

Maintain accurate records for chemical applications, water usage, and maintenance activities

Ensure safe operation of equipment and adherence to safety standards

Experience Requirements

1–3+ years of experience as an assistant to an experienced Golf Course Superintendent is required.

Florida pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)

Previous supervisory experience, strong leadership and communication skills

Experience with irrigation systems and turf management practices

Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required in the golf industry

Have a basic understanding of the rules of golf.

Be up to date on federal, state, and local laws on golf course operations.

Some administrative and executive ability, especially critical in problem‑solving and decision‑making. Need to work in “team” atmosphere while executing the vision of the Superintendent.

Ability to perform required role in emergency situations.

An interest in the game of golf is preferred.

Special Requirements

Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA)

Valid driver’s license

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.

Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
